Back to building and decorating after struggling to finally settling Sam down. Commission the day-time immersion heater and, later, fitting all of the door-stop mouldings to the cupboard and door frames.
It turned cold today in contrast to the wind and rain that started this and others lately. I was up at 6.30am and got myself ready and needed to as Sam started up half an hour later. I lost control of him at first, realising later that I had not exercised him enough and given him the attention he needed so that when I put him back in the kennel he would not settle down. In exasperation, I tried smacking him with a rolled-up magazine to no avail and felt that this was a mistake afterwards. After more time, he settled down and I got on with some painting; managing to complete the emulsion-painting of all of the coving that is fixed throughout the ground floor of The Harnser.

Further day of work and tending Sam, starting early in the pouring rain and gale force winds, grooming and playing with him after which he settled down.
This, whilst I updated yesterday's journal as the first entry for December. Di had a visit from Chas, Chris and the girls and I spoke to Debbie and helped with her Chemistry homework.
I had set my alarm radio to wake me at 6.30am again but was rather groggy from the late night and did not manage to get out before Sam started barking again at dawn. This was around 7.15am this morning as the rain was pouring down and gale-force winds were blowing to make a right storm of it. I made Sam's food with warm water and milk and then exercised him for a while in the garden before feeding him in the garage where it was lighter and more sheltered. I spent an hour with him, calling him to heel by name, command, sign and whistle and then groomed him and played with him for the rest of a full hour before putting him back in his kennel and run at 8.30am.

Combining work, shopping with watching Sam and settling him into his new kennel which was delivered today. The building inspector would not need to visit Harnser again and would issue a completion certificate soon.
There is to be an investigation into the Chancellor's use of public legal costs to evict a sex therapist from his private house. The Maastricht Bill was delayed by filibustering tactics by Mr Bill Cash M.P.
Sam had spent a reasonable night in his new abode but was understandably nervous and howling from time to time. I resisted the temptation to go to him until this morning when he started up again at dawn and, after my breakfast, I went and fed him and then did some more simple tasks with him. When not bored or uncooperative, he comes to heel and is starting to sit once he arrives. I tried the short lead and the extending lead which was less successful but he wears the collar without complaint. I was learning the right way to mix his food which is with warm water and milk and giving it a little time to soak in first. The Norfolk kennel was delivered and erected this morning and I was glad that I had laid out the paving slabs last night.
