A milder day after all of the recent bad weather and an opportunity to spend time with Sam, getting him inoculated as he fouls the kennel and I strived to get Harnser ready for carpet-laying. T
he Moslem/Hindu religious and racial violence is rising with mutual attacks on places of worship and revenge killings with a Hindu mosque burned to the ground in the Midlands
It was not the worst of nights for me as I only heard Sam wake up at 5.30am and then lay in afterwards to eventually feed and exercise him from 8.00am onwards. Unfortunately, he had fouled his kennel compartment and this will be another lesson for him to learn but I think I will let him out for toilet before I retire next time and use the opportunity to clean out his run and kennel so he is comfortable for the night. Better news was his performance on the lead as he is now walking without pulling with good fear of the choke chain. He is also better learning "No" but still disobeys too many "Heel" commands.

A cold and frosty night during which the swimming pool frost stat turned the pump on and this combination unsettled Sam. Debbie helped me entertain him this morning before getting accidentally nipped!
Then returning to Norfolk to work further on Harnser after which a better night with Sam. India is plunged into a new Muslim/Hindu religious crisis by the destruction of a shrine by one side on the supposedly sacred ground of the other.
Last night did not go so well. It was very cold and frosty and the swimming pool pump started up on the frost-stat and whether it was either of these facts, or my having fed the pup on a meal spiced with chopped pigeon heart and liver or what I do not know but he was awake and yelling for an hour from 10.00pm until 11.00pm, again for a few minutes at 2.00am and then for a good while from 5.00am until 5.20am! In all, I had another unsettled night disturbed by this racket and worried about the similar disturbance to our neighbours. I was up at 6.30am and just got to him half an hour later when he woke up again.

This was a busy first day for Sam at Paxton as I had to leave him in his new kennel twice for the Kimbolton School Carol Service and again when taking Diana to see "Sneekers", a Robert Redford adventure film. Debbie and I enjoyed wood pigeon for tea.
The night did not go as badly as I feared. Sam awoke around bedtime and then once again at about 5.00am and so spent the night in a reasonably settled state for the first one in a strange place and kennel. I was up at 6.30am ready to feed and exercise him half an hour later. He took better to the lead and choke chain, and I am starting to get some control over him. We left him in the kennel this morning whilst driving over to Kimbolton to the School Carol Service and he was all right. Then we returned to feed and exercise him before leaving him once again to go this time for our lunch and some shopping in St Neots.

After an early start and time to settle Sam down, we made the journey home to Paxton and had soon settled Sam in his new kennel. Nigel called round, and the girls and I played with Sam until bedtime.
I was awake at 6.30am again but was finding bedtimes of after midnight and awakenings of this time a lethal combination. I got washed and dressed and, with the dog's food ready such that I was just starting to eat my own breakfast, when he woke up and I had to rush down. An hour of exercise and preoccupation with him to ensure that he was going to settle and rest and then I put him back into the kennel and set about my own meal before packing up the Range Rover ready for the journey home. There was a hard frost and the vehicle locks were frozen at first but I was soon all right. Left the two properties at 10.00am and had a good journey with no trouble at all from Sam.
