Another full day of voluntary activities, producing Focus advertising copy, councillor colleagues’ stationery sets and then an evening Southoe Parish Council meeting to consider a local police report before rushing over to St Neots to catch the tail end of the St Neots Town Council meeting.
Then a long session advising my LibDem Town Council colleagues in private over the aspects of Mayor-making and local politics with some success. After our experience with Della, Diana has been upset these last two days by two horrific local accidents on the A45 road to Kimbolton at Stonely, where cars were completely flattened on both days with probable loss of life.
Despite by best intentions with regard to sharing my time, I was dragged into another full day of voluntary activities. I produced the new FOCUS advertising rate sheets and accompanying letters in draft and also a new stationery set for each of the lead councillors around the St Neots area. Plenty of other letters and telephone calls as well. This evening, a meeting of Southoe Parish Council which was the first one I had managed to get to for some months. Listened to the new St Neots Police Inspector David Abbs again and then advised the parish on the range of issues that are affecting them these days. I was hoping to hear of a volunteer or two to deliver FOCUS around Southoe village but was disappointed. Diana says that we should deliver one more ourselves if nobody comes forward and include a slip saying this time that circulation in Southoe may have to be discontinued if we can get no help.

After morning coffee, a visit to the Doctor’s for an examination to see my damaged nose for which I had a private referral to a consultant EMT surgeon for help. Then to St Ives to visit Imray Laurie for some French canal guides and to bemoan the demise of the former Ekins/Prudential antique auction.
An evening meeting to see about using the E.A.R.S. computer use during the election without success and then very late home to bed. Mr Porter, the plumber, took a look at our pool room plumbing and found a bad leak under the shower tray.
To St Neots with Diana this morning where we had coffee at Brackenbury's Cafe. I had made my appointment with the St Neots Doctor's Surgery for this morning and called there to see a young Asian women Doctor Saroya. I told her my sorry tale about falling on my nose in Scotland and felt I necessary to emphasise that I was not drunk at the time! She took a good look, thought that my nose did not look straight and noted that I could barely breathe through my left nostril at all. After some discussion, I opted to get her referral to a private clinic of Mr Ellis, Consultant EMT Surgeon next week and it looks like I will need an operation.

As the flood water subsides on a mild but foggy day, leaving a thick layer of silt everywhere, and the children back studying, I could get on with some work before Diana demanded lunch out, for which I took her to Brampton Garden Centre which was most enjoyable.
The news today is of the Maxwell Brothers refusing to answer questions of the Commons Select Committee looking into the matter of the Mirror Pension Fund and on the tenth anniversary of the Falklands War, a TV documentary highlights the failure of British Foreign Policy that led to the conflict
The flood water subsided today, and the gardener was able to see the resulting silt everywhere. I was slow up and had to have breakfast in my dressing gown again to be able to eat with the girls. It was 9.30am before I was on station in my office but, with Diana out, Daniel back at college and the girls at school, at least I could get on. Della has quite settled down now and is not shy or afraid of school. She was frightening her teacher Mrs Reeves today by racing around the playground on her crutches and touching the others on the back to play chase! Even school dinners seem to hold no fears for her but then she is being treated as a celebrity.

At home on a foggy and misty day as the river flood recedes, Debbie and Daniel’s friends leave, Derek Giles pops in for a chat about his mother’s funeral and I then have a couple of sessions powering up my new Yeoman plotter and checking tracks and routes off Yarmouth.
Had the good news tonight that I have a volunteer to deliver my Diddington FOCUS in the person of Colin Humphreys, the Parish Chairman!
Tired after the late night and restlessness even after I went to bed. I was the last to dress and had to have my Sunday breakfast in my dressing gown with Debbie's guest at the table. Della becomes daily more able to get about and her leg is now quite flexible such that she can hop on it when on all fours. She was learning her "six-times table" today. Daniel made a very brief appearance with Angela and another U.E.A student from Cheshire before lunch today but they would not stay for a meal despite our offer. Debbie's friend Jo was collected later after staying the night, but I do not think that either of them had a great deal of sleep.
