Completing the FOCUS deliveries on a very cold and frosty morning and then home resting, reading and making plans for next year’s cruising, taking time to study how to install my new Yeoman plotter.
Collecting Debbie and her friend Jo later this evening from her classmate Eddie party which was a poorly organised event. Late to bed on a cold and misty night as all three political parties are getting into a state of hyperactivity over the prospects for a general election
I slightly restless night after all the excitement of yesterday and then reluctant to rise this morning on a very cold and frosty morning. The chores and then the rest of the morning and early afternoon delivering the overdue FOCUS to Diddington and Southoe with Diana helping me to do much of the latter. I printed out some slips to ask for help in both villages and included them in the issue in hope of soliciting a response. Some Rugby League on TV this afternoon and then this evening reading the literature that I brought back from the boat show, including the publications on the French Waterways. Diana and I have decided that we should go over to France after all this summer as we are not getting any younger.

Steven Bloom called at 7.30am and we took my Range Rover down to Earls Court for the London Boat Show as the river flooded as predicted. A good day looking around the boats and equipment checking out navigation software, fridge installation and developments on electric boating before buying a Yeoman plotter.
London was in a state of alert today after an IRA bomb blast in Whitehall and the police were everywhere. Home late and tired after a long day of driving and walking
Had an early call this morning and was ready for Steven Bloom when he called at 7.30am. We took my Range Rover down to Earls Court where the boat show was occupying all the two large indoor exhibition areas, the new one of which has the largest unsupported span of roof in Europe. My Range Rover is now 5/6 years old and has been a good and faithful car, towing and transport vehicle. The design is ageless and the personalised registration - VXD1 - conceals its year of registration. We looked at some of the 37-42ft Fairline and Broom cruisers first of all and then roamed the hall once before coffee. Then we tackled my list of chores, visiting Harold Hayles to see about my cutters, P.C.Maritime to check on latest revisions of navigation software and maps and Penguin Marine to get information on fridge insulation before we stopped again for lunch.

Poor news about my rising cholesterol levels after a check-up, despite my weight loss from over 14stone to 13st 11lbs (88Kg). and then the rest of my day on my accounts, calculating that my investments had risen to their present value of £2,402,517!
Some very favourable press reports for us locally and some bad news for the government nationally as Sterling was under intense pressure at the bottom of the EMS bands with the government and Bank of England desperately trying to avoid depreciation or interest rate rises. After pouring rain all day, the river was well up this evening and would surely be over the banks overnight.
The first full day for Della to be back at school and Di was fully occupied this morning as a result. I had laid in a bit to start with and then had to hustle to get to St Neots Doctor's Surgery for my 10.00am appointment. This was the follow-up for the "CLEAREST" cholesterol research project and I had a complete blood test to measure, not only my overall level, but also that of HDL Cholesterol - the beneficial constituent that has to be there in a certain proportion to prevent the furring-up of the arteries.

Taking Della back to the Hospital orthopaedic department on a quite mild and wet day for an examination with Consultant Mr Tim Vaughan-Lane and then for a visit to her school before some time for her in Physiotherapy. She was welcomed by Mrs Reeves and Della's helping friend, Harriett, and she had a good session getting back into things in a gradual way. Some work on my National Savings and helping Percy with press release circulation. US President George Bush panicked the press corps by collapsing during a state banquet in Japan and Sterling was under pressure today and at the bottom of the EMS permitted range. More bad news for the Tories as the privatised British Steel announces the closure this year of Ravenscraig steel mill in Scotland
It was a big family day and Diana ensured that we were all awake early to facilitate it (all, that is, except Daniel). Breakfast in time for Debbie to catch her school bus for her first day back and then we got Della ready for her hospital appointment. We arrived on time for 9.30am and had to get her along to X-Ray. Some little time there and I amused Della by showing her the fish in the aquarium. At my suggestion, we had made sure that Della had got herself ready to go today and also to get herself around on her crutches. She was managing well, such that I could show Diana that she would be all right to go back to school afterwards. When we returned with the X-rays, the orthopaedic department was crowded out and running a full hour late and so I took Diana and Della to get some refreshments.
