My plans to concentrate on my finances during the day were thwarted by the need to help the gardener relocate the dovecote and then constant telephone interruptions from radio and newspaper journalists and also residents worried about Little Paxton development plans.

I managed some financial work and visited St Neots to undertake the consequent transactions and then hosted seven of us (the family and two of their friends) for a Happy Eater lunch for over £40! A Village Hall Committee meeting in the evening to discuss the prospect of the Parish Council underwriting the costs of the building extensions and repairs.

It was my intention to spend most of my day on the immense task of catching up on all of my financial work and limiting voluntary work to this evening but that was not to be. The day started quite late as it was the last time this holiday that Diana allowed me a lay in. The gardener had arrived and I could leave the garden to him in the main, but I did go out to see him and get myself and Daniel lumbered with the task of helping re-locate the dove-cote on the new upright pole. This involved stretching at arm’s length above our heads, but we did it in the end, though I did scrape my finger and strain my back in the process!

I had a succession of telephone interruptions as I sat at my desk, and it seemed that all the world were making up for the times that I was not answering over the Christmas period. There were the press, radio and newspapers and then residents concerned about the large planning applications that are filed for Paxton at the moment. By the end of afternoon, I had managed to get most of my financial summaries up to date and pay the outstanding bills before calculating the balances of my cheque account. A quick dash into St Neots to make some withdrawals and transfers and then home for tea.

Della had a school friend Harriett with her to play today and she came out with us and enjoyed a Happy Eater Lunch. Debbie had Amy as well and so there were seven of us and, though I did not mind, the bill was over £40! Debbie and Amy had to sit in the boot of the Range Rover which is just about illegal at the moment. This evening, I attended a meeting of the Village Hall Committee and discussed the prospect of the Parish Council underwriting the costs of the building extensions and repairs, rather than leaving the hall committee responsible.

There were mixed feelings, and the matter will be considered by a joint meeting of the trustees and village hall officers. Home quite early and some TV before bed feeling very weary.
