Our Boxing Day drive to Brighton to stay in a fine seafront suite of the Queen’s Hotel

The roads were congested and blighted with roadworks for our Boxing Day drive to Brighton to stay in a fine seafront suite of the Queen’s Hotel on the eve of our 25th Anniversary. Later on, watching the film the "Perfect World" which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We had planned to travel to Brighton today but first we got up, dressed and had our breakfast before I took Sam for his morning walk and Diana packed our suitcases. I had got the children up for breakfast as well and we took this chance to update them on what was to be expected them while we were away. As we started our journey, Daniel took the girls over to their grandparents in Bar Hill to stay. We stopped off at Mimms for a break and then carried on via London to Brighton.

The M25 seemed to be the best bet but we wished we had journeyed via the city centre as the orbital by-pass was almost at a standstill due to roadworks and weight of traffic. Many family groups, having spent Christmas with relatives and friends, were driving back home and had all taken to the road at the same time. We struggled round and eventually got onto the M23 and thence to Brighton.

No trouble in registering at the Queens Hotel where we found they had allocated us a fine suite as Room 203 on the second floor which had splendid views of the sea and promenade. An unfortunate but trivial difference had developed between us at our lunch stop and we had a frosty end to the day with Diana coming to the cinema with me and then back to have dinner at the hotel. A frosty relationship had mellowed by the time Diana had started eating and we had an experience which could only have amused us.

Being the later to eat, we found ourselves amongst a coach-party who had already eaten and were crowding in to prepare for a bingo session. We moved tables and were well-served by the staff to the background of amplified bingo calling! To bed and to sleep easily after a long and tiring day. The film was "Perfect World" and thoroughly enjoyed.
