Further research on Pointer/Retriever dog handling after an unsettled night and it seems I should reign back on training an attend to the basics with him. I was steadying him to livestock today and then preparing and cooking more of my goose.
More work on Harnser later and then a nice bath again this evening, a hair wash, my journal and another reasonably early night.
I was awake earlier than usual this morning after a fairly unsettled night but still got up, washed and had breakfast and then used the extra time to read up on Pointer/Retriever dog handling. It seems that I should still be working away at the basics and not exciting or distracting the dog too much with retrieving lessons. A long drive this morning looking for some footpaths across livestock fields to expose Sam to cows and sheep and improve his steadiness. In the event, the land was far too boggy, and we could hardly approach and so I gave up and did some shopping instead.

I had the other breast of goose with bread for lunch and then broke up the carcass, added the giblets, and then stewed it all for hours to make a nice soup for tea. I then made sufficient stock from another stewing and meat fragments to make another nourishing soup for tomorrow. Jack came by this afternoon, and we had a long chat and so it was quite late when I resumed work on Harnser. I trimmed the carpet in the kitchen threshold and then fitted an edging strip to connect the kitchen vinyl to the hall carpet and then, later, cut a door to size and hung it in position. This just left the fitting of catch and handle to finish this job tomorrow. A nice bath again this evening, a hair wash, my journal and another reasonably early night.
