Further research on Pointer/Retriever dog handling after an unsettled night and it seems I should reign back on training an attend to the basics with him. I was steadying him to livestock today and then preparing and cooking more of my goose.
More work on Harnser later and then a nice bath again this evening, a hair wash, my journal and another reasonably early night.
I was awake earlier than usual this morning after a fairly unsettled night but still got up, washed and had breakfast and then used the extra time to read up on Pointer/Retriever dog handling. It seems that I should still be working away at the basics and not exciting or distracting the dog too much with retrieving lessons. A long drive this morning looking for some footpaths across livestock fields to expose Sam to cows and sheep and improve his steadiness. In the event, the land was far too boggy, and we could hardly approach and so I gave up and did some shopping instead.

Working on a rough and windy day in Norfolk, tending to a mischievous Sam, undertaking more housekeeping jobs to keep the place tidy and roasting my wild goose.
An incensed U.S. calls a meeting of the U.N. Security Council as Sadam Hussein is testing out the western powers again as his men first cross into Kuwait to steal back military equipment lost in the Gulf War and then return to start disassembling the warehouses as well
I awoke slowly this morning on a rough and windy day. Sam had slept through all right but was unsettled first thing and between exercise sessions and had to be told off several times. He also ran off over a boundary and jumped up at a couple of ladies which was an embarrassment during a rather naughty day for him. Perhaps I was spending less time on him as I did a couple of jobs on Harnser and roasted my greylag goose. The bird was great and my cooking more than capable and this will spur me on to shooting more geese given the chance. I cut the front stable doors and fixed the letter box which will be a relief for the postmen as they will no longer have to climb the unsafe stairs to Heronshaw.

An early start sorting out books on gundogs and taking copies as needed for training German Shorthaired Pointers Then travelling back to Norfolk after a lunch of roast beef in the pouring rain and howling wind which was not easy but a relaxing bath on arrival. Sam was very excited to be back and slipped back easily into the routine.
It was wild, windy and quite wet for most of the day. I awoke at 7.00am without setting the alarm/radio and then got myself showered and dressed ready for Sam at 8.00am who also stirred exactly on time! Some work on my gundog books first thing, sorting out those books that needed to go back to Norfolk library and taking photo-copies of any sections that were of particular interest with regards to German Shorthaired Pointers. Then time to pack most of my things before lunch. Diana had prepared a nice piece of roast beef, but I shall have to help her carve it next time as it was served in blocks!

More time with Sam on a windy and damp day then concentrating on my financial affairs until taking the family for a Little Chef lunch. Resting watching Tv sport this afternoon and researching gundog and breed clubs.
The U.S. and Iraq stepped back from armed confrontation despite an ultimatum and so Saddam Hussein lives to fight another day.
Another day flies by and I wished that I could achieve more with the time. Sam was quite good today and had his first experience of water as he slipped into the river whilst leaping about! He seemed none the worse and quite enjoyed it. I finished archiving my journal for 1992 and so was able to concentrate on my financial affairs for the morning until it was time to take Diana and Della for lunch at The Little Chef. Debbie was to have taken part in the school netball trials but could not face the rain and wind.
