Christopher Chope, the Tory Vice-Chairman, resigns his post after making very prejudiced jibes against Germany and France

My night's sleep was rather affected by my suffering with this cold that made me get up for a glass of "Lemslip" and some water in the early hours.

Rather groggy still, when woken at 7.00am but made a point of getting up and out with Sam to the bus stop to see off the girls.

This was just as well as Debbie was far too slow and even forgot her sports bag and had to go back for it, nearly missing the bus in the process.

If I had not held the bus for her, she would have! Just a small run with Sam after, checking out the Mill Lane road works which are still holding up traffic for the dubious motive of works on the bridge.

Worked in my office until lunch time, thinking of slipping away to have lunch with Wiggly but Diana was keen on a trip to the cinema in Bedford and so I went there with her, picking up a swift salad and pizza meal at The Pizza Hut on the way.

Back for another dog walk and tea after which I felt too weak to go through with a hectic late session with Wiggly and so I had to telephone to let her down for the second time in a day.

She did not sound very happy about it as well. A quiet evening watching Manchester United get knocked out of Europe by the Swedish Champions on the TV and then an early night with the undemanding Diana.

News is of the Tory Vice-Chairman resigning his post after making very prejudiced jibes against Germany and France and, with Kenneth Clarke having to admit that the UK's contribution to European budgets is a third more than forecast, Tory splits are again evident.
