Frustrating office morning at Comart and then by train for Byte Shop London afternoon after news on The Lady as Clive is knighted and Kenneth Baker returns to ministerial duties
Another bright sunny day with a cool breeze. Up and to the office for a frustrating morning encountering production and quality problems. A straightforward mail but irate customer (soon placated) from the Channel Islands who was upset by debt recovery leading from poor sales administration. Meetings with John about C10 software policy and support issues; Derek Morgan about disk drive supplies and printed circuit quality problems and Derek Weatherby about credit control.
Poor June suffering from a painful period today but no time or remit to massage her back! Instead a volume of correspondence and dictation which she ably returns before lunch. Quick sandwiches and water (I am slimming at the moment) and then by car to Stevenage to catch a train to the London Byte Shop. There to review in depth Job Specifications, Interviewing briefs and recruitment methods for four vacancies. Following recent London labour turnover, I am leaving nothing to chance! Then home to television news and an hour’s relaxation. I established today that “The Lady” will be ready for our week’s voyage. The hull is anti-fouled, propeller cleared of rope entanglement and they are working on the engine next. The news has David Steel threatening to resign over doubts about the future of the Alliance but nobody believes that he will go. I wrote today congratulating Clive Sinclair on his knighthood and Kenneth Baker on his ministerial return. I hoped for a meeting to take place soon. On reflection, I realise that the train I caught from London was in two halves, the front half detaching and arriving direct to Stevenage half an hour earlier. I had sat in the rear half and stopped at every station on the way!
