Busy day managing the Comart Group, receiving the Torch Computers Chairman and seeing the BMMG Vice Chair later to curtail the banks and organise the British microcomputer industry’s fight against IBM
Early to rise and to the office. My room was very warm because of the fact that I had left on the fan heater yesterday, but the weather was generally very cold. First to brief June and pass over the results of my previous days activities. Detailed letters for the Bank with a memo to brief Derek Weatherby on what to say; minutes of the Xitan Review Meeting; results of reviews exit interviews and appraisals of the Xitan people. Then to review the post and a little after 10.00 o’clock. The Chairman of Torch Computers arrives in some wonderment as to why I asked to see him. I ran through the range of initiatives that I am presently involved with and then turned to the question of the IBM issue and CCTA.
I obtained his support which might well be of help in the future. Lunch of sandwiches and drinks and after to work on company administration and other paperwork. Time also to review personnel matters with Carlton and decide on a few courses of action in that regard. A general effort to clear my desk and then Nigel Smith arrives at 7.00pm and we adjourn to The White Horse for some beer and cashew nuts. I put to Nigel the latest developments at Export IT and the planned merger with the UKITO people and he concurs. Much interesting talk on the role of Banks and we exchange notes on how to keep them under control. Home to find Diana in bed by 9.30pm and the tea in the oven, but at least the news tonight is late and I can enjoy the two together. Bed a little late but satisfied with a good day’s work.
