Day preparing for the Comart Board meeting and getting three dental fillings whilst our builders finish off at 6 Willow Close as Di choses a new Hoover 1100 washing machine, Sarah Tidsdall is jailed for leaking Cruise deployment details and Scargill leads a long funeral cortege for miner dying in strike

On time to the office and deal with the morning post after approving the last payroll claims. Completed the personnel report and managed to obtain and circulate all other Board reports by lunchtime and bind them for ease of use and reading. After lunch home to see Diana and hear, over a cup of tea, of the problems of getting our old washing machine repaired. Off to St Neots and left Diana to look around the electrical shops whilst I went by appointment to the dentist for three fillings.

Not a very pleasant experience but skilfully done and without undue pain or discomfort. Then together to the electrical shop and to purchase a Hoover 1100 for delivery later this afternoon. Home to recover from the local anaesthetic and to read the Board Reports which show a good month for Comart Computers with profitable outcome and stocks and liquidity improved. News tonight of hardening attitudes in the miners’ strike with both sides showing no signs of backing down. The funeral of the miner who died in the picketing took place to the accompaniment of a ½ mile cortege of miners and a funeral drum and Arthur Scargill heading the procession. In the courts Miss Sarah Tidsdall, the girl who leaked details of cruise missile deployment to The Guardian, was jailed for 6 months whilst only, in my view, acting in the public interest in exposing a subterfuge for employing Cruise by stealth. I must sympathise with these critics of the government who feel we are moving to a police state. The weather today mild but later today turned windy and cold. The builders have now finished the balcony and installed the fittings to complete the building work.
