A rather boring wet day of working in my office and then inside laying carpet pieces upstairs as the boys had Clare and Heather around before Daniel went to Clare’s house to ‘watch videos’! This as Russia extends their nuclear test ban unilaterally, Sarah Lambert was found safe after it was feared that she had been abducted, Anti-nuclear demonstrators stop disposal site tests and South Africa details some 8,500 people detained under ‘emergency regulations’
Another late night, which was also restless with the warmth and then another late morning to follow. We are no longer in a morning routine, now that Di is laying in bed. Breakfast of sliced melon, which was nice and also some wheat flakes to follow. Still eating as cleaner Joan arrived at 9.00am, but up to shower, shave and dress, as we did not swim after breakfast today. Out then to feed the doves, which were quite hungry, but I could not tempt the new blue bar youngster to the table. Many of the others were covered in creosote as they could not bear to be out of their dovecote , even for one night, as I had painted it,.
Then down to work in my office, sorting a pile of mail and reading the journals to get the computer industry news. Then set down to list the action items and by coffee time I had cleared my desk. Di took the girls shopping this morning, as I continued to work on. Lunch with the family, plus Steve Hicks present as well, then back to it after. Wrote a half-dozen letters on all sorts of matters and then turned to paying all the outstanding bills. Daniel had Paul and Steve round to swim this afternoon and Clare and Heather joined them. Then he went to Clare’s house to watch a video film this evening, which is quite a budding relationship. Unfortunately, Paul used Dan’s computer today to wipe clean all his games discs and he won’t be allowed round again, which was silly of him. Worked on after tea, finishing my designated chores in the office, then oiled all of the door hinges and, at long last, put the last remnants from the carpet laying into the attic. It poured with rain for most of the day, which did not affect me inside, or the kids swimming, but made the doves a sorry sight when I went to feed them. Had to help the dun hen back up to the dovecote, as she was quite sodden. Away with the ducks and then some time writing up the journal, as Di insisted on watching the TV – always a distraction. Still it told me that the Russians had today extended their unilateral nuclear test ban until the end of the year. Missing secretary, Sarah Lambert, who was feared to have been abducted, was found safe and well outside a rail station, but we still do not know what she has been through. At last the South African government have released details of the 8,500 people detained under their draconian emergency regulations, as New Zealand have gone ahead and implemented sanctions of their own. Protesters keep the Nuclear Waste Disposal Executive, NIREX, away from starting their soil tests at the sites of Killingholme, Bedford and Fulbeck. Stalker’s report is said to recommend 11 disciplinary charges against him on use of police vehicles and of associating with a businessman. Brighter weather due tomorrow.
