An Early start taking Debbie to her church service alone and then a day alternating by working on varnishing The Lady and watching the disgraceful Maradona get away with a blatant ‘hand-ball’ to beat England in the World Cup in the famous ‘Hand of God’ incident. Thatcher now risks nations resigning from The Commonwealth as The Archbishop of Canterbury’s envoy names a Bishop who has been detained without justification
A long lay in as Di declines to get up until quite late and get the morning tea. Showered, shaved and dressed for breakfast of cereal and then out to the doves. For the first time the Blonde Qualmond chick is down to the bird table to feed and its mother seems to be incubating again. It eats both seed and green stuff readily, as it starved by its parents in their efforts to wean it. Then to the newspaper, which I read quite avidly, intending to work inside if the dull cloudy skies turn to rain.

Awake to a strange malaise on a blustery day which, with Gary badly affected as well, was probably due to the work on the hay cutting opposite and then some paperwork and administration before fun and games seeking Daniel after school as the unwarranted imprisonment of public and church leaders in South African and the gathering of 60,000 displaced refugees in the ‘Crossroads’ camp attracts international condemnation. Thatcher remains adamant and Reagan has his bowel cancer to preoccupy him
After an energetic bedtime, a sound night, but still awoke with this malaise and rymy feeling that has hit me the last day or two. Got worse with the breeze outside and I wonder whether it is some reaction to the new hay cutting opposite. The wind is coming from the east. Poor Gary, Daniel’s friend, visiting later today had to be driven home when his eyes were swollen up so that he could hardly see. No progress on my outside jobs after feeding the doves and ducks and so settled to my desk for a while ordering some papers (mostly share and bank finances) whilst Di went shopping in town. Then the pool people from Elm Leisure arrived to fit the ‘winter’ cover (at last!) and it proved to be quite good. I settled down afterwards to watch the England vs India test match with a lap full of computer journals to catch up on.

An active and productive day getting up early and applying two coats of varnish to The Lady and signing papers for the sale of my Kode shares before a morning visit of Norma and Auntie Bob and an afternoon visit and ‘swim’ of Linda and her children before alone to complete the long process alone of locking up and putting the Hayling View ‘to bed’ later. This as Chernobyl Caesium radioactive contamination halts the movement and slaughter of sheep in North Wales and Cumbria for 21days, 200 Hippies are arrested as they make their way to Stonehenge and the courts are dead set against the Miners again
A better day for me, but poorer, in terms of the weather, for everybody else. Woke early and, not waiting for my morning tea, got up, shaved, showered and dressed. Then my drink and (half an hour early) chased up the children to get ready and clear up their rooms, before unlocking the house perimeter and feeding the doves before breakfast. A plain cereal breakfast and then tidied the papers on my desk to check for anything urgent and get the Kode sale contract papers for all to sign. Di went off to shop in St Neots and did some chores, whilst I made a start on sanding down the canopy varnish, ready for the last two coats. At 10.30am, after I had made and drank my own coffee, Di returned and then received her mother and Aunt Roberta for a visit.

A disjointed but warm day, recovering from late night football TV coverage and unable to continue varnishing The Lady due to the last coat not having dried. Di’s parents visiting and a school parents day for Debbie, who is doing well at her studies and then to the stables where she is steadily gaining confidence. Thatcher beleaguered over resisting South African sanctions and Reagan also for supporting her as the US/USSR arms talks might yet resume and NHS surgeons warn about long waiting times
A groggy start to a poor day. The combination of late night football matches and too much sun put me out for the entire day. Down late and not dressed to breakfast and then a slow shower and shave. I also washed my hair, but it did not revive me. The gas service supervisor arrived early (the one that managed the repair of our boiler) and managed to remove the unused and disputed gas meter without too much damage. The ducks and doves, but then the boat varnish had not completely dried and so I could not continue. Lunch of salad, shared with my mother & father-in-law, who came to visit today, then watched a little cricket with Charles.
