A day working on my Paxton Park chapters interrupted firstly by my dental hygienist appointment and then to take Debbie horse-riding as I am again let down over my Canon photocopier delivery, Gorbachev still holds out hope of nuclear disarmament despite the US resuming tests, Terry Waite is found under the custody of Islamists, Sit Michael Havers admits having given two interviews to Duncan Campbell, the BT strike continues and Wynford Vaughan-Thomas, Liberace and Fyfe Robertson all die today.
A very late night last night, working on my Paxton Park chapter and did not get to bed until 1.00am. Little Della had an accident before then and wet her bed, but luckily Di was still awake and tended to it. Even then some trouble getting to sleep, but then was deep asleep for the last few hours, even though my side of the electric blanket had been left on in the very hot position! Up and dressed straight away, after my morning tea, and in sports jacket and trousers for a visit to the dentist after breakfast. I was due to see the hygienist last Christmas Eve, but cancelled due to a heavy cold. Drove into town first thing for the date at 9.00am and was subjected to the normal unpleasant scraping and polishing that costs £5 for the privilege. Home ,without taking up Di’s offer of a coffee at Tooks and got down to my work again. I spent the rest of the morning on Sir Williamson Booth, before it was time for lunch. Back to it this afternoon, until an early tea at 4.00pm and then it was my duty to take Debbie horse riding.
She was in good spirits and rode better than last week, but still had trouble getting Emma to canter on the track. Home and the evening finishing off the editing of the history chapter on Paxton Park. I received a telephone message from Canon this evening and now they tell me I cannot get the copier until early next week! What a company. The news today is of Soviet leader, Gorbachev, still speaking out in favour of disarmament and detent. In spite of the nuclear test by the Americans, he says that arms control is still possible. There are signs of progress, at long last, at the talks in Geneva and this is given as the reason for the US hawks to call for Star Wars implementation quickly, to undermine the progress. It is said that Terry Waite is under trial by an Islamic ‘kangaroo court’ for not delivering on past hostage deals. Attorney General, Sir Michael Havers, has confirmed that he had two meetings with journalist, Duncan Campbell, but denied that in either that the Zircon spy satellite was discussed. The British Telecom strike continues, amidst peaceful marches and the first negotiation between BT and the unions are actually taking place. Distinguished veteran broadcasters, Wynford Vaughan-Thomas and Fyfe Robertson both died today. Liberace, the showman and candelabra piano player, has died in the United States from a number of illnesses and his lawyers are denying that it was AIDS that killed him
