A full day of work on my riverside lawn above the boat harbour whilst Di did some boat cleaning and took Della to playschool before I took her swimming later with me. Two armed robbers were shot dead by police today, MP Ken Livingstone probes the government about the SAS ‘shoot-to-kill’ policy in Ulster and the ex-Philippine President Marcos had planned another coup to depose Cory Aquino
Awoke from a sound sleep to my morning tea. Sat a while, resting, drinking and listening to the radio, before I shook a leg and got up and showered & shaved. Dressed for breakfast in my jeans for work after. The family together eating cereal, but Daniel had to attend the meal in a dressing gown, being late up. Out after to work on the riverside lawn above the boat harbour. This started a complete day of endeavour, that eventually saw the bulk of the job finished by this evening. I was levelling the earth, digging and barrowing the excess from the higher sections and tipping, raking and heeling down the earth into the dips.
As I went along I had sometimes to dig round and then hammer down the ties, so that they were not in the way. Also laid down an edge of paving stones, until I ran out half way along. Ran out of earth as well, with a third to go and that is how much now remains. Daniel cleaned out the swimming pool this morning and then went over to Jason Chamber’s house to watch a video. Di took Della to playschool and spent the morning there, but will soon be adopting the approach of leaving her there with the helpers. She was late home to make lunch and I did not have the chance to have a swim with Daniella. Di spent a little time cleaning the boat this afternoon and evening and I checked out the alarm by-pass on the balcony doors in the guest room, so that we can welcome Charles and Chris to stay and go for a cruise. Daniel, home from school on holiday, went swimming with Della later and she now swims confidently with only 5 floats on her waistband. I could not do any of my paperwork today, which was frustrating, but at least I managed to get the river frontage done. News today is of a police ambush of armed security van raiders, where 2 of the robbers were shot dead after refusing to put down their guns and surrender. The Government have agreed to a public enquiry into Child Abuse after all of the recent fuss and controversy. Ken Livingstone, the ex-leader of the GLC and now House of Commons MP, is making his presence felt in the House by insisting on keeping raising allegations of an SAS shoot-to-kill policy in Northern Ireland. The US say that ex-Philippine President Marcos had planned another coup to depose Cory Aquino late last month, but it was thwarted. A cooler day today, but the mugginess has returned. We might actually get a shower overnight, but more fine weather is forecast for the next day or two.
