Shaky start to a very rainy day after Di’s nightmare unsettled us before I saw the doctor about my foot and then a dispute over my drainage outlet with Mr Larkin and Hunts DC before I had to prepare the swimming pool for a party later in the week. Widespread civil servant strikes at home and more Irangate revelations in the US but diplomat Edward Larkin was released today
A better night’s sleep, but Di was missing in the morning and the bed was chilly without her! It seems she had been awake all night with a nightmare of Daniella falling out of our house, down a ravine and not being able to find her body, despite searching all night! Perhaps our new boat harbour is a subconscious hazard. Found out from the radio that an England vs Wales rugby international was on the TV and so went down to the lounge to watch this early morning sport. It had finished by 7.35am and I had to shave, shower and dress in 10 mins to be ready for breakfast by 7.45am and I was still the first one at the table. To my office after, pondering on what to do, but I managed to get an appointment at St Neots Doctor’s surgery about my foot and drove the Daimler in to be there by 10.20am.
A Dr Patel advised me that there was no worry from Tetanus (I had been inoculated 2 years ago and I am good for 10 years), that there might still be something in it, which would probably work itself out, and that I should struggle on for ½ month more and return if it had not healed. Then he would send me to the local hospital to get a surgeon to remove the scar tissue, if it was still bothering me. Home to wait for Di’s return for lunch, when she revealed that she has invited the playschool mums and tots to our garden this Friday for a barbeque, which is quite a horrifying thought. This afternoon I went out and vacuumed the swimming pool, cleared out and back-flushed the filters and added chemicals and put on the heating, so it can be ready on time. Then I sat inside my office, saw the cricket test match between England & Pakistan rained off and then Mr Larkin came round to give me his latest thoughts on the river work. He now suggested 18 inch pipes, but that the Council should pay the cost. I phoned Huntingdonshire CC Highway Engineer and this opened a whole new can of worms. To add to our discomfort, the rain was torrential this evening and I now have Mr Larkin wanting paying and the Council being upset that we had been interfering with their drains – and still the drain outlet is a running sewer!! I have to attend the Council offices in the morning and hope to resolve who is doing what then. This evening I continued updating my investment summary and then wrote a letter (copy to Mr Larkin) to the Council, setting out the position to keep them both in control. The news today is of the release of the British Diplomat, Chaplin, from Iran and his flight home. Widespread civil servant strikes have hit Customs, DHSS offices and Air Traffic Control. In the Irangate hearings, Colonel North’s former secretary gives evidence on how she had to shred key documents and alter others. In the latest opinion polls, the Tories are further ahead in England and Wales, but Tory seats in Scotland are shown to be under acute threat. Unsettled weather, with rain and cloud, the forecast for the remainder of the week.
