After a sound night’s sleep, I was up at 7 AM to make the morning drinks and then work on my history book project for the day, concentrating on the Paxton Park chapter, and eventually breaking off at 9pm for some working on my conservatory plants. A lawyer is murdered in Belfast, the UK government has cast doubts on the safety of soft cheeses leading to threats of retaliation by the French and threatening the livelihood of organic farmers. Chancellor Lawson warns of more information to come and the stock exchanges fell on this news
I had retired to bed quite early at 10:15pm last night and slept soundly until 7am this morning without a break. I then had to make this morning’s drinks as Di lay in prior to cooking as a fried breakfast. I was planning a day’s work on my history book project but first fed the fish and then slipped out to feed the doves and get the Range Rover out for Daniel to clean. He was not too happy about it but he had got away without cleaning the car for two Sundays, as he had been at Gary’s house. This morning, I edited my Paxton Park chapter and continued after lunch with the task of adding the illustrations. Then later still, I started writing the section on the Boardman’s and their Christian Science School. I then still had the Maternity Hospital and Haylings sections to complete before even this Paxton Park chapter is finished.

I had to break off before 9pm, feeling quite tired and with all of the screen work causing fatigue. I then occupied myself re-potting the tomatoes and sewing eight strips of bedding plant seeds before cleaning up and watering my plants. The news this weekend is of an appalling terrorist crime in Belfast where a solicitor acting for the bereaved in the ‘Shoot to Kill’ inquest on trial has himself been shot and murdered in front of his wife – who was shot in the ankle. The government are thrashing around in the wake of food poisoning outbreaks. They have cast doubts on soft cheeses such as Brie and Camembert; infuriating the French who say that they will retaliate by banning the import of British eggs. The Listeria scare has also been used by the government as the justification for banning the sale of unpasteurised milk; threatening to put a sector of organic farmers out of business who have produced milk without incident for 50 years. Chancellor Nigel Lawson is leaking warnings about a sharp rise of the inflation level ahead of the release of official statistics later this week. On Friday, the stock exchanges fell back on news of higher inflation indicators coming back from the retail sector.
