US President Bush declared an end to the Gulf War at mid-night on a day I spent wading through my mail, settling down to work on my income tax affairs and completing some stockbroker transactions before resuming work on our LibDem FOCUS newsletter and attending our best-ever local Liberal Democrat meeting at the Priory Centre. The Allies had destroyed most of Iraq's armies and tanks in Southern Iraq.
The good news this morning was that US President Bush had declared an end to the Gulf War at mid-night Washington time (5.00am this morning), having destroyed most of Iraq's armies and tanks in Southern Iraq. There was no final Iraqi surrender but there was acceptance of the relevant UN resolutions. The coalition are calling the cease-fire provisional and have added further conditions about Iraq destroying its ballistic missiles and undertaking not to produce more.

After breakfast, I did my chores and then waded my way through a large quantity of mail before settling down to work on my tax affairs again. I had received the contract notes from the stockbroker, but I had to query them as the transactions for the children had been separated and then charged at the higher commission rates as a result. You have to watch these guys! Mike Truswell agreed to re-calculate the contract notes on a combined basis. I also resolved the question of how to redeem sufficient of my own AWA loan notes to realise the rest of my own year's £5,000 Capital Gains exemption; talking to stockbrokers and accountants in the process.
Later today, I updated yesterday's journal and then resumed work on FOCUS copy, including my own contributions to the FOCUS. This evening, I went to the local Liberal Democrat meeting at the Priory Centre where we hoped that many of our supporters would attend in addition to our usual activists. In the event, we had our PPC, our existing and potential candidates, together with our usual stalwarts but it was still the largest branch meeting we have had so far. The trouble is that there is so much to do in time for the May elections and that it is our St Neots Town Council arrangements that are falling behind. Home quite late but soon asleep in bed.
