Kimbolton Stature Street Fair
Kimbolton Stature Street Fair

As the weather turned quite autumnal, after recent warmth, and, with the gardener re-erecting the greenhouse in Paxton from Horning, I carried on administrating election work before we went off to the Kimbolton Statute Fair for which we had a mixed experience.

I then had an evening of telephone calls and managed to locate the bulk of the constituency data amongst colleagues which had gone astray.

It was cooler this morning as the weather turns from the established warmth of this summer to the clearer, chillier nights of early autumn. At least the leaves had not started to fall yet. The gardener had erected the frame of the greenhouse yesterday and today he fitted the glass to complete the salvage of this useful item from Heronshaw. I went out to talk to him first thing and noticed that my conservatory was all misted up as the de-humidifier had somehow failed to cut in. It soon cleared after the slight drizzle had stopped and the sun come out. We unloaded the garden shredder which is something else that Bill has got to assemble!

I spent much of today going through my old election and constituency files and extracting the data needed to prepare for the Saturday election planning meeting in Norwich. The girls went off quite happily this morning, but poor Debbie had got a cold and so had I which makes us both a bit miserable. Diana went to an exercise class this morning and, what with that and the onset of her period, was quite shattered when she came back. We therefore had an early lunch to commiserate before she carried on with her housework and me with my administration. After the girls had come home and we had eaten our tea, I just managed to make a few telephone calls to my colleagues before we all went off to the Kimbolton Statute Fair.

We took the Law children as friends for Debbie and Della, but I found the fair rather disappointing. The charges for the attractions had doubled since last year from 50p to £1 and the operators were even more dubious than usual. I had an argument with a "dodgems" operator who wanted to charge me twice and then the owner tried to make it up by giving me a free ride, but I had already resolved not to come again. Della was very difficult but eventually enjoyed herself with the others and we came home in time for an earlier night. I then had return telephone calls and managed to locate the bulk of the constituency data amongst colleagues which had gone astray.
