After a week of long car journeys and early mornings, I was happy to have a family day of relaxation before making a start on my boat-house drawings later.
I was in no hurry to get up and going this morning. The combination twice this week of early mornings, long car journeys, and evening meetings was quite exhausting. I was to spend the day at home relaxing with the family and getting various things done before making a start on my boat-house drawings later.

Another very early start for Heronshaw meetings in Norfolk with David Townsend, the structural surveyor and later with Steve Martin of Bamber Roof Trusses. Between times trying to visit planners at NNDC office in Cromer and North Walsham without much success.
Later home to another Local Government meeting this time at The Alwyn School, Ramsey, for the third in a sequence, again tussling successfully with Derek Holly. Home to bed with Diana
Yet another very tiring and demanding day. It started with me being woken at 6.00am and having to quickly shower and shave to enable Diana to use the bathroom at her normal time. Then a quick breakfast and rush out, packing for an overnight stay in case that was needed. The journey went very well indeed, for leaving near 7.00am avoids the Cambridge traffic, and I actually arrived at the offices of David Townend, the structural surveyor, with half an hour to spare for my 9.30am appointment. I had a good meeting with him, showing him my piling plan and roof truss sketches, and he agreed that a viable design could be put together out of timber that would meet the building regulations.

Stiff and tired this morning after yesterday’s hectic schedule, watching some sport on television and welcoming the Kimbolton School news on my bust stop proposals. After a further call from the structural surveyors, I arranged a return visit for Friday and then set off for a Little Paxton Planning Committee meeting before another of the Parish Council which achieved a formula for liaising with the Village Hall Committee.
I was quite stiff and tired this morning and was hoping to relax and watch some World Cup cricket on television. However, Della was camped down and watching "The Gnomes" on the children’s channel and so I repaired to get washed and dressed instead. Late to breakfast, therefore, but saw the girls out of the door before they went. We had a letter from Kimbolton School today, confirming that the Little Paxton school bus arrangements were now to be adopted permanently after the trial period which was welcome news. I then went and watched the rest of the Australia vs England TV cricket match which was settled in favour of England by a large margin which means that Australia is just about set to go out of this World Cup before the quarter finals which is a great shock to them.

To Heronshaw after a very early start and breakfast on the way with Steven on the warmest of this year so far, with it being sunny and still as well. We laid out the positions of both the extended boat dock and new boatshed and also gauged the heights of various parts of the plot above water.
Then a visit by a roof truss maker and a viewing of Mr Howlett’s nearby boathouse (which we see as a model to scale up and follow) before meeting up with Mr Amis about the necessary piling. Home after a high-speed journey to join the panel for an HDC Parish consultative meeting, sadly missing out on messages from a structural surveyor.
I had agreed a starting time of 7.00am for us to leave for Norfolk and we were not too late in meeting this goal. It meant me rising an hour earlier than usual but it was worth it as we were greeted by a wonderfully mild day, the warmest of this year so far, with it being sunny and still as well. We stopped off at our favourite "roadie" for coffee and a share of some bread pudding (with Steven falling for a bacon buttie as well!) and then drove into Ropes Hill Dyke around 9.30am. We worked hard to lay out the positions of both the extended boat dock and new boatshed and also gauged the heights of various parts of the plot above water.
