A full programme on a hot day, starting with playing with Della, showing the gardener how to care for the compost heaps and swimming pool, and then completing my admin chores as Glisson Printers Company Secretary before hosting a swimming and barbecue session for friends and neighbours and then an evening Parish Council A.G.M taking Linda there and home afterwards!
I was up and about fairly early again today and, after breakfast went outside to do a few things. I had given Della her usual "piggy-back" to relax her for school this morning; but then diverted round the house to take her for a ride round the garden which rather shocked her and made her laugh! I had just about finished sweeping the back garden and hoovering the pool by the time that Bill arrived, but still showed him how to do this for future reference. Then to my compost heaps where I instructed Bill in how to look after them; them being left unturned for too long and not rotting properly until I tackled them last night. He had brought along some runner beans to put in alongside the shed and I helped him move some things before having to leave him to it and coming in to get on with some other work.

It was then the Glisson Printers Company secretarial work that engaged me until after lunch. I had to paste in the meeting minutes and write up the Registers of Members, Secretaries & Directors and Transfers & Allotments and then fill in all of the relevant forms and attend to the correspondence. All of these things should have been done several months ago but had been left for lack of time. At least the St Neots party are now talking again to Glisson Printers and getting them to do their printing again. A nice lunch of smoked salmon salad helped to keep me going. Then, the day being nice and warm, I went into St Neots to get some things for a barbecue and set up the set on my return. We had lots of friends and neighbours in the pool but they eventually left and the family could then enjoy a session of swimming and eating my barbecued food.
The girls were hot, bothered and testy after having too much heat and sun today but I eventually got them cheered up and in the pool before doing their homework. I went on to the Parish Council Annual General Meeting this evening, to give some moral support to John Brown and keep an eye on the influence of the new Conservative Parish Councillors. The meeting re-elected John Knight as Chairman, but then he had to leave and the Vice Chairman Stan Hedges took over and made right hard work of the meeting. It went on and on and they seemed to be missing me but I was powerless to help them in the background.
The new Tories hardly said anything and contributed even less. Afterwards, I took the Parish Clerk and half a dozen of the councillors for a drink at The Anchor and did my best to put them straight and get John Brown introduced to more of them. As it happened, I had invited the two lady councillors as well and, fearing less for my reputation following my retirement from the council, took Linda there and home afterwards! We chatted a while in the car and I think that she could be trouble for me if I was of a mind to let her be as she is far too attractive and friendly. Home a bit late and then later still watching TV after an active and warm day.
