The day spent visiting Winterton by the sea after stopping at Potter Heigham for some shopping and then off to Horsey Staithe for a walk around the mere and to see our cottages before the evening swimming at James and Bernice Dunham’s Smallborough Hall
I slept well last night, although Diana heard the thunder rumbling but found it quite pleasant, nevertheless. We awoke to heavy showery rain this morning, but the temperature was warm and it was obviously going to be another sunny and hot day. I had hoped to clean the winter's muck off of the outside of the boat but I ran out of time as the sun rose and the girls wanted their breakfast, but still I managed to clean the canopy, the roof and most of the cabin sides to make the rest of the job easier tomorrow. We set off by car to go to Winterton for a day at the seaside but first we stopped off at Potter Heigham for our morning drinks and a little time shopping. Whilst the girls looked mainly at clothes, I bought some fly-fishing tackle for my forthcoming trip to Scotland.

We found the beach at Winterton very good with fine sand and water quality. We all smoothed plenty of sun-cream onto ourselves and then exposed as much as we could. I stripped Diana off and rolled up her underwear to leave her with just a little of her bra and pants protecting her modesty and I resolved to get her a bikini when next the chance presents itself! The girls had a happy time building sandcastles and burying themselves in holes dug in the sand. Then on to Horsey for an afternoon drink and ice cream and then the circular walk around the south side of Horsey Mere, along Waxham Cut and across the fields via Horsey Corner back to Horsey Mill.
This was a trip down memory lane for me as I used to spend many holidays in Horsey as a child. We saw the old cottages Seaholme and Seadene that were our past holiday base. The girls ran ahead and made the walk by themselves. Back to Heronshaw and, as we arrived, we bumped into James and Bernice Dunham who invited us back to their house in Smallborough for a swim in an indoor pool. The girls thoroughly enjoyed it and it saved bathing them, but I think that Diana was not so keen through shyness. We stayed for drinks as dusk approached and then came back for an early night at the end of another active day.
