Our first sporting day at Thormaid where Nigel shot a grouse, and I caught a 2lb 4oz brown trout in my loch with almost the first cast of the day from the shore; the boat being full of rain-water. Back at the Forss House Hotel, Nigel was intent on some serious drinking and so I went to bed and left him to it.
I was awake quite early this morning but, sharing a room with Nigel, went back to sleep and woke up again when we were called at 7.00am. Down for a nice Scottish Breakfast and then out to Thormaid to try the sport. It was still raining and was to continue for most of the day but Nigel shot a grouse and I caught a 2lb 4oz brown trout in my loch with almost the first cast of the day from the shore; the boat being full of rain-water. I was denied a shot at any grouse myself though we did see two more coveys of two and five respectively to give us hope for sport tomorrow.

One of my boots sprung a leak and so we went into Thurso to Alan's shop to get a patch and some other gear. I only managed to get some practice shots in today as there were no grouse put up in my field of shot but I live in hope for the next few days. Time to clean my gun this evening and then, having hung my clothes out to dry and got my trout put into the freezer, I settled down to have a nice meal, Nigel was intent on some serious drinking and so I went to bed and left him to it.
