I completed my staining early again today which was as well as the scaffolders arrived at 2.30pm to reveal my fine boathouse trusses and rafters.
Then to Latham’s of Potter Heigham for some small items of fishing tackle for my Scottish trip, to Jewson’s for guttering to finish the roof, before home in time to go to bed with Diana.
I was out to continue my staining early again today and was well into the job before 9.00am. It was hard work again stretching, kneeling and reaching all of the crevices but I only took a few short breaks and kept on going with the intention of finishing in mid-afternoon to give myself the chance of going to Jewsons and doing a few other chores. This was all just as well as the scaffolders arrived at 2.30pm having received my message about the boards and I was finished with these just in time. In fact, they helped me down with the rest and I could pay them the balance of the hire charge so as to leave nothing outstanding for tomorrow. The large boat-shed trusses and rafters look a picture without those old boards blocking the view and I was pretty pleased with the result when I had finished.

I then changed and went off to Jewsons where I met Richard Fisher, freshly back from holiday, and we found the guttering that was needed to finish the roof, loading it on to the roof-rack of the Range Rover. Then off to Wroxham for some money from the building society and then back across to Lathams of Potter Heigham for some small items of fishing tackle for my Scottish trip; namely, some floating lines, fly dressing and a folding landing net so that the bigger ones will not get away this time! I got some fried fish and hamburger for a quick tea whilst driving and was thus back to Heronshaw with enough daylight to just get the guttering up. The fair weather broke at that point and a drizzle and then a downpour started and so I was glad of the additional protection for The Harnser. Telephone calls to Nigel and Diana and then a decision to pack up and leave for home so that I could look at buying a shotgun tomorrow. The journey back went quite well and I was home in time to go to bed with Diana.
