Off to meet Jim and Ben with Sam for dog training on Halvergate Marshes

On another warm and sunny day an early start for our trip to Norwich for some beauty treatment, the Jarold’s bookshop and to study the Broads Local Plan draft.

Then back to Heronshaw for some gardening and off to meet Jim and Ben with Sam for dog training at the Acle Straight this time on Halvergate Marshes.

I had telephoned Mark Rainer and ascertained that his canvas of Hilton "outs" had gone well today, and we continue to haul back the early Tory lead

It was another warm and sunny day with hardly a cloud in the sky and we enjoyed it to the full. We had to get a shift on to be ready to go into the city early this morning as Debbie had booked a complete treatment at the beautician starting at 9.00am! This meant that Diana had to get me up before 7.00am and then I had to walk Sam before a 8.00am breakfast.

Della came with me, and we walked around the country lanes but she got into a mood half way round and came back on her own; crossing the busy main road alone as well which was not so good. The journey into Norwich went well and we got Debbie there on time. Della then came with Diana and I to Jarrold’s to look around the bookshops and then to the coffee shop for coffee and buns.

Some money from the Norwich & Peterborough for each of us and then I let Diana go and do some shopping whilst I visited the local studies section of the library and examined the Broads Local Plan draft. They had a special section and three particular policies for Horning including a special one for Ropes Hill Dyke where we are proposed to be outside the development limits and can only have non-residential boathouses. This will probably suit us as it will preserve the character of the dyke and, with it, the amenity of our properties.

I collected the girls from the children's section of the library and rendezvoused (a quarter of an hour late) with Diana for lunch at Oliver's. Then back to Heronshaw for the afternoon where I did some weeding in the garden whilst the girls sunbathed, read and played with Sam. Diana took the bicycle to Horning for some shopping and then joined me in the garden and we made an impression between us. An early tea of seafood salad and then over to Acle Straight with Sam to meet Jim and Ben for another training session; this time on Halvergate Marshes.

The weather was still warm and fine, and we had good conditions even if there were too many cattle and hares around. Even so, Sam did some half-reasonable quartering, retrieved hand-thrown and launched dummies well and was quite steady. He is starting to ignore my commands again and I will have to be strict to turn it round. Jim had a terrible time with Ben, chasing hares, failing to retrieve, and making very heavy weather of just about everything except quartering.

He got another awful hiding from Jim judging by his yelling, but I think that anticipation and prevention is better than recrimination after the event. A somewhat sombre mood as a result and we did not organise anything else before our Sunday training session in Harlow by which time Jim should have moved house. Back home to feed and bed Sam, bath myself and then update today's journal before taking my bedtime drink quite happy with today.

I had telephoned Mark Rainer and ascertained that his canvas of Hilton "outs" had gone well today, and we continue to haul back the early Tory lead. Once we get our third leaflet out and re-canvas the "undecideds", we should pull level and ahead to win the seat providing we can put together a reasonable election day team. In this respect, I heard that Ron Heinrich was over in Hemingford Abbots this evening sorting out a committee room.
