The Japanese car firm Toyota, in Derby, has announced plans to build another factory complex next door and the Corolla car model there which will be a boost for the depressed economy.
The fishing vessel impounded in Newfoundland, The Esty, has been released on a £20,000 owner's bond, having been found guilty of fishing with illegal nets and for illegal quarry.
The undersized-mesh nets were dredged up from the seabed where they had been dumped and a secret compartment on board the vessel was found and held a large quantity of American Plaice; which should not have been caught.
There will now be talks between Canada and Europe over quotas and conservation as these practices have been endemic and a source of dispute for some time and the vessel was on the High Seas.
This morning walking Sam, monitoring my Email and exchanging messages and then updating these last few days' journal. Some income cheques came in and some other financial work was undertaken so that the majority of the afternoon could be dedicated to my St Ives Inquiry.
A late afternoon and evening concentrating on updating my St Ives History report by first adding a series of letters from the Eastern Regional Chairman, Nina Simson, and then addressing the points on my existing draft raised by former St Ives Chairman, Chris Slee. This done, I printed out two fair copies for Chris Slee and Stuart Littlewood. To bed quite a bit earlier than of late.
The weather these last few days has been a strange mixture of anticyclonic clear skies, sun and frost at night punctuated by squally showers of sleet and snow. In Scotland, the gale-force freezing winds have caused blizzard conditions.
It seems that the seasons are having a right royal battle with winter trying to maintain its grip against an attack from spring that is trying to wrest the initiative.
