Daniel in the dog-house for breaking his watch but allowed to play with David Tomlin and outboard dinghies whilst I work on The Lady and receive a visit from Old Bill and spot I spot a fine river mirror carp

A cool misty morning that did not clear into hot sunshine until mid-afternoon which was truly a blessed relief. Daniel is under a strict regime of supervision now that he has broken a watch bought for him only yesterday. Diana had bought him the watch because he was always home late and efforts to restrict his friends and activities had worried her.

Now he is to avoid playing with the urchin, Richard, has to stop playing with his home computer for a week and a further day for any late arrival. He is now restricted but today plays happily with David Tomlin on his outboard motor dinghy and later is taken swimming with David and his mother. I complete four coats of varnish on the front cabin and sliding roof of The Lady and leave them better protected than ever before. If I can achieve the same on the rear cabin soon, I would have durably protected my restoration of last season. As I work on the moorings, I see how fast the ducklings are growing. Also how many boats are on the river today – quite an increase on a few weeks ago. The wet, then hot weather has encouraged all manner of weed to grow and a form of blanket weed, in particular, is very troublesome to outboard engines. Old Bill visits to admire my handiwork and claims the old gas cooker that I had replaced for the The Lady. A good day of progress on the project. Today, I spotted the good mirror carp basking in the sunshine and weeds opposite my new riverside plot for the first time this season. I was glad that it had survived the winter and I am resolved to catch it. I retire to bed relieved in the news from Diana that her monthly period had ended, but too physically tired from two grueling days’ work to take advantage of this fact tonight.
