Using my new Executel terminal for my financial planning and booking a Yarmouth holiday hotel as the Miners’ strike hots up
A lay in and further breakfast TV update on the Olympics and then morning tea in bed reading The Financial Times and Business News. Then to my office and several phone calls on BMMG business. My telexes have been getting through and mail is arriving at last. Towards lunchtime Daniel returns and joins me for a ‘play’ with the Prestel terminal for most of the afternoon. Eventually after tea to use the free time to scan all of the financial and business information from Hoare Govett. Diana and I then use the system to enquire after holiday accommodation and we book a hotel in Yarmouth for tomorrow night to get a day or two in at the beach.
Tonight we also collected our two new Ford Escort 1300L Estate cars for Diana and my Parents. News today of more extreme statements by Arthur Scargill and an executive delegate decision to increase the disciplinary measures for non-striking miners. Also of Daley’s gold medal in the decathlon and less than diplomatic comments to the press in his normal irresponsible style. Bank interest rates are again cut but industrial action is anticipated in the transport dock workers and is already taking place as the result of job cut protests on the railways. The weather fine but coolish but is promised warmer for our seaside trip tomorrow.
