An early start and considerable progress in reconciling accounts and dealing with financial matters generally, which delayed me joining Di so that we missed lunch together in town after getting my haircut. Quickly over to Huntingdon to plead unsuccessfully for lorry restrictions in Little Paxton and home to more messages and press opportunities before considerable time spent planning for tomorrow’s District Council Meeting. Thatcher plays on the world stage inviting Gorbachev and arrangements for the IRA ‘Shoot to Kill’ trial may be challenged by judicial review. The nurses dispute escalates and Israel’s Jitshijk Shamir gains religious extremist support to form a government.
A good night sleep and flying start to the day. Breakfast of wheat flakes and then to my office to update my financial affairs. Plenty of bills to pay, bank accounts to reconcile and had to calculate the transfers needed between accounts to balance the books. Letters to write as well. In the end, I could not complete the task before Di went to town and I could not join her. I cycled in later and did my financial transactions and delivered some letters before going to the barbers and getting my haircut. I was looking for Diana around St Neots soon after midday, as we would have lunch together, but she had gone home as our lines of communication were crossed.

Tired this morning on a fine and clear today after staying up late working on my Manorial History chapter but then out to give the Range Rover a good valeting before the Remembrance Day service at St James’s Church. Another major arms find in the Irish Republic close to the border at Dundalk and hundreds of Londoners have been moved out of their homes in Docklands as a £500 unexploded bomb is found
Stayed up very late last night, working on the Manorial History chapter, determined to press on and complete a difficult task. Was necessarily tired today as a result and found trouble getting down to more work. A lay in, then my fried breakfast which was very nicely cooked for once. This morning, I went out and gave the Range Rover a good clean and vacuum. Daniel was with his friend, Gary for the weekend and so it was my chance to clean the car properly for a change. Then relaxed in my chair and read the weekend Financial Times to form a judgement about the way in which the Western stock exchanges fell at the end of last week. Lunch and then to my office to try and do some work. I cleared few things out of the way but did not achieve a great deal. I had a few calls from Bill Walston today who was transferring the rest of my archive discs onto the Apple Mac. Also spoke to Michael Pope – it seems that John Matthewman’s illness has prevented the printing of our latest FOCUS as well.

Working on my Little Paxton history book that deals with Manorial History as the conservatory erectors, all four of them, only came for two hours.
Awoke early this morning, determined to get on top of the chapter in my Little Paxton history book that deals with Manorial History. Got showered, shaved and dressed before my morning drink arrived and put in a good hour before breakfast. Worked for the rest of the day on this project, taking breaks every so often. It was a much colder day after the sun had gone down, due to the clear sky. The conservatory erectors, all four of them, only came for two hours which seem to me to be a waste of time.

Ploughing on with my Little Paxton manorial history on a fine, sunny and mild day and receiving a visit from Mrs Rosa Young to compare notes on the matter. Receiving also a representation from Mr Wilmot of Carisbrooke about a planning development issue. Percy and Pat Meyer came around to type up some more FOCUS copy. The Scottish Labour Party have started an inquest over losing Glasgow Govan, the British Army shoot one of their own as the IRA attack a Londonderry Police Station, the Pipe Alpha families reject the compensation offer and the London Fire Brigade remain concerned about London Underground fire safety.
I slept all night after some initial difficulty and then I heard the news about the SNP winning Glasgow Govan first thing which was a depressing reminder of the North/South electoral and constitutional divide. I had breakfast a little later than the others and then took time to read the daily and weekly Financial papers. My old company, now the Computer Division of Kode, seems to be doing very badly, which is a shame. Out to see Pete and to give him instructions for the day’s work. Then the morning working on my Manorial History, edging it forward little by little. The conservatory erectors were here in force again, screwing yesterday’s constructions fully together and then assembling the lantern and roof onto the top of it. It grows quite huge and is already a strong feature of Willow Close.
