I got the family together to process many more Little Paxton books ready for sale

The recent warmth and humidity led to overnight storms and torrential rain giving almost eclipse-like dark conditions. I managed to organise pony rides for our village fête tomorrow, had a chat with my Dad and his ear cancer is very worrying and then we had a visit from Di’s Mum and Dad back from their holiday. After lunch, I collected the market stalls and delivered them to the playing field and then spent this evening updating my accounts and then I got the family together to process many more Little Paxton books ready for sale. The National Dock Strike is going ahead after a ballot and the rails strike is still rolling on Wednesday’s, together with an ongoing overtime ban making matters worse.

This was another warm and humid day, but not as bad as yesterday. There was storms overnight and torrential rain which carried on this morning. In fact, after breakfast, the day went dark again, streetlights came on and the heavens opened the like of which I could not remember. It was almost like a partial eclipse of the sun. We have had some strange weather recently. This morning, I telephoned the Wood Green Animal Shelter (at Godmanchester) and was pleased to get their agreement to give pony rides at the village fête tomorrow.

I then had a chat to my Dad, who told me more about his tests and consultations. He has to go three times a week to Addenbrookes for radiation treatment to tackle his cancerous growth. We all hope it will be all right. Di’s Mum and Dad popped in for coffee then as they were just back from holiday and we were just going. They are fine and wanted to know all about the children’s progress. After lunch, I had to go to collect the trailer of market stalls from St Neots & District Council depot. I left them in the middle of the playing field in rather an exposed position, reasoning that they were better left there than round the back as they could be seen. I called in on a few of the neighbouring householders to ask them to keep an eye on them and also phoned the duty Police Sergeant to put them on their guard as well. This evening, I updated my accounts and then we got down as a family and processed 1/8th of the remaining Little Paxton history books by posting in the enclosure maps in the back. Daniel folded, Debbie glued, Diana put them in, and I unpacked and repacked the cases. The news tonight is of the National Dock Strike going ahead. 90% of the dockers voted and the majority was 3 to 1 in favour of strike action. The rail strike is still rolling on Wednesday’s with an overtime ban making things worse. The storms were headline news and there are more on the way.
