Opening the Village Hall fête - some chores for Diana and I this morning before loading up the car and setting up our stall on the playing field. I was called upon to make a speech as the Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Village Hall and Local Councillor and I declared the fête open and Diana and I gave out the prices on what was a successful day with a good attendance. Then the job of collecting the stalls on a trailer as we calculated that both the sale of my books and the pony rides and delivered £40 each for the fund. South African Nelson Mandela has been allowed to meet Pres PW Botha, the three unions and the rail dispute our meeting together on Monday morning to plan their joint campaign and Tory Health Minister Kenneth Clarke is lashing out at the British Medical Association over their opposition to the health service review and new doctors contracts and the Tories are well behind again in the opinion polls and getting rattled at developments.
I slept in a bit today and then found that the family had already eaten their breakfast. I fed the fish, watered the plants and then got all of my books and other materials ready for loading into the Range Rover. Once Di had taken Debbie to her horse riding and then Della swimming in the Range Rover, I had to use the Ford Escort to St Neots to do some chores. Once we were both home, we had coffee and then loaded everything else up for the Village Hall fête on the playing field. We set up our stall and then had beef burgers and hot dogs from the Scouts barbecue stall. I was called upon to make a speech as the Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Village Hall and Local Councillor and I declared the fête open just after 2pm.

The weather was close to reigning, after yesterday’s deluge and this was a cause of worry. We also wondered whether the village people would turn up but we need not have done so as they did so in large numbers in the event was a great success. I had to give out the prizes for the five aside football competition and I also gave my own gifts to the three ladies who done most of the organisation for the fête. Diana had to draw the raffle prizes and me another and the weather stayed fine. There was then the long job of taking down the stalls and getting them onto the trailer which involved me driving the trailer round and the others helping me to load them up. We had sold 22 of our books and given a donation of about £43 odd to the cause. The pony rides had also raised about £40 odd and so we had done the village proud. Tonight we did some packing and prepared the transport by hitching up the trailer and putting the dinghy on the roof rack. We went to bed late, and tired, but well please. News that the South African Nelson Mandela has been allowed to meet Pres PW Botha. The three unions and the rail dispute our meeting together on Monday morning to plan their joint campaign. If I were responsible for the railways, I would be worried. The Tories are well behind again in the opinion polls and getting rattled at developments.
