Daniel passes his driving test and Debbie seems to have passed her entrance exam for the Main Kimbolton School and on a very mild and sunny day. Dan was immediately out in the Escort this evening! I was delivering Focus newsletters to remoter parts of Southoe and Diddington this afternoon and then preparing and giving my speech this evening to the St Neots Branch of the Young Farmers Club.
There was rowdy and violent behaviour by some crowds at council meetings up and down the country about the Poll Tax and the DTI report into the Harrods takeover castigated the Al Fayed brothers with minister Nicholas Ridley coming in for criticism from both sides of the House for his lack of action on the matter
A very mild and sunny day today, but the wind was still very strong. Ideal conservatory weather and I opened the roof lights and the double doors into the lounge. Daniel was home this morning and had his driving lesson before taking his driving test later in the morning. I did some paperwork and then went into town to get my hair cut and to open a new building society account. On my way back, I called home on the car phone and was very pleased to hear that Daniel had passed his test which was cause for celebration. We also have not heard from Kimbolton which means that Debbie has passed her entrance exam for the Main School and so they have both done well.

I then drove on to the village of Diddington and the remoter parts of Southoe to deliver my share of the FOCUS newsletters. My foot just about stood up to the strain of it all but I could not have done it any sooner. This afternoon, I worked on my speech to be given this evening to the St Neots Branch of the Young Farmers Club which took until tea. Then this evening, I went to give the talk. It was a very young audience of 18 to 22 year olds, about a dozen of them, and I tried to mix a bit of humour with a talk on the role of the District Councillor and I think that they appreciated it. They were quite good at organising their little meeting and then proposing their vote of thanks and it is nice to see young people organise themselves in this way, even if they are a bit shy and hesitant.
Daniel was out in the Escort tonight and Diana and I had our first experience of being short of a car, which was the sign of things to come! She collected me at about 9.00pm and I came back and wrote up my journal. The news today was dominated by scenes of rowdy and violent behaviour by some crowds at council meetings up and down the country; with the politicians trying to apportion the blame and distance themselves from the people involved. The other story was the DTI report into the Harrods takeover with the Al Fayed brothers castigated by the report. Nicholas Ridley made a very short statement to the House of Commons and came into criticism from both sides of the House for his lack of action on the matter. To bed at a reasonable time but still quite tired.
