We eventually visited my Mum Grace on the eve of Mothers Day

Starting and ending the day very tired, I organised mostly successful Liberal Democrat meetings in St Neots and then Cambridge where I chaired a constituency campaign meeting which was well-attended and quite productive until the candidate Sue Sutton intervened. Arguments with Diana then followed delaying our visit to Mum in Stanton on the eve of Mother’s Day.

I was still dead tired today but had to keep going to ensure the success of a couple of campaign meetings. I was still up fairly early and carried on preparing text and copy for the first of these two. I got to Avenue Road with this information and then all of our candidates joined us for an information and training session. Sally Guinee went through the sequence of what was involved being a Liberal Democrat candidate and then I added flesh to the bone and gave details of the literature plans and time-scales of the election campaign. Percy was chairing the meeting as Michael was away, and Rob Williams, the agent, made sure that the candidates had all signed their forms to consent to serve etc. Home to leave Percy taking their photographs and then I worked on to prepare for this afternoon's meeting in Cambridge.

Lunch and then Percy gave me a lift to Glisson Road. I was chairing a constituency campaign meeting which was well-attended and quite productive, but the equilibrium was somewhat disturbed by candidate Sue Sutton making an impassioned appeal for us to get organised for a General Election in June which led to a bit of nervous tension and made the meeting finish a little late. Diana was going to collect me at 4.00pm but was late getting through the Cambridge traffic to do her chores. She therefore arrived in quite a state and we were angry with one-another. Furthermore, we had both forgotten to bring my Moss Bros Dinner Suit to take back which was a nuisance. Also there was no Debbie as Di had agreed that she could go to a party instead.

Just the three of us set off for Stanton to see Mum on the eve of Mother's day. To cap it all, on arrival, a tense Diana then shouted at Della, making her cry, and this delayed our entrance with Mum waiting! What with all this, and me being very tired from recent late nights and slightly ill with a sore throat, it did not really make for a very happy visit. Home rather crotchety and tired and then to bed quite early and left Diana to go and collect Debbie from her party as it was her idea.
