Bill Medlock starts work as my new gardener, which is good news, but I have to overcome bad news from John Matthewman about a printing delay for one of my election leaflets. A fine day to start with but it clouded over later and tried to rain.
The best news today was the arrival of Bill Medlock as our new gardener, and he was here in good time at ten minutes before nine to get started. I welcomed him and let him into the garages and then left him to sort out the tools in the shed and start the gardening. He pruned the roses and then started forking over the beds to freshen them up and reduce the weeds that had been germinating in the recent milder weather.

I worked away inside at my desk and then carried on in the afternoon, typing up notes from my latest campaign meeting and getting the press releases out. I had confirmed that all of the Priory and Eaton Socon FOCUS's had been delivered and then issued the release by fax, getting Percy's help later to take the rest out to post and hand deliver to our colleagues. As I was settling down this evening, I called John Matthewman about this week's printing and found out to my horror that he was unable to do any for two weeks and this meant that there would be no A3 election printing including the leaflets due to be delivered in our target wards this coming weekend! I spent the whole evening on the telephone and ended up finding a friend of a friend who would do it on a print machine north of Cambridge, but I would have to retrieve our artwork and go and see him in the morning. To bed a little tired and fed up at this change of plan and also further behind in trying to design our second election address which should be on the stocks. A fine day for the gardener to start but it clouded over later and tried to rain.
