The morning waiting for Di to collect me as I was leaving hospital after nose operation, reading up on marine electronics and planning the rewiring of The Paxton Princess. The journey eventually persuading Di to pick up some fish and vegetables as a more suitable recovery diet after she had taken Della for her hospital check-up which had given the ‘’all-clear’ for normal activity. The sleeping pill had evidently worn off by 4.00am as I awoke with a start to find that my dressing had been seeping onto the pillow. Then a doze from then until my 6.30am breakfast call. The same meal as yesterday at 7.30am but this time I kept it down and was pleased with my progress. Mr Ellis came by again - this time around 8.00am - and announced that I could go home today but that I should come back on Friday week, the 14th February, to have the splints removed from inside my nose. I should not be disappointed but my nose would be "no good until then".

After he had gone and the Sister came by, I queried this with her as I thought that they had already taken out the splints; but it was just the wadding that they had removed yesterday and just the inexperience of one of the nurses saying that they were taking out the splints. The rest of the morning spinning things out, waiting for Diana to come and collect me. She had to take Della into see Mr Vaughan-Lane and then back to school before she could come for me. Vaughan-Lane had said that Della would not need to see him again and Diana said that the X-Rays showed her leg to be much straighter. Della was now allowed to do anything that she wanted and behave quite normally as it would take a blow of similar force to her original accident to damage the leg now.

Back at the Evelyn, I was spinning things out as a procession of nurses and domestic staff came by and checked that I was going to go, wasn't I? I lay in bed reading up on marine electrics until 10.00am and then slowly got showered, shaved and dressed; mastering my own bandages for the first time. Then slowly to pack and clear up so that I was ready and waiting by 11.00am, watching the TV until Di arrived at midday. I was escorted downstairs and paid my bill for the telephone and newspapers (which they called "incidentals") and then Diana loaded me up and started to drive me home. We had a bit of an argument about the speed and smoothness of her driving and then about the food that I could and should eat.

Di realised that I was a bit crotchety but right about the food and so dropped by Waitrose to get some fresh vegetables and boiled fish for me to eat for lunch and tea. I took things easy this afternoon and evening, sitting on the settee in the lounge and reading my marine electrics book again whilst watching sport on the TV. I intend to completely check and re-install, if necessary, the wiring aboard the Paxton Princess to reduce noise and improve electrical efficiency.
