Calling and speaking to Della on her on her 8th birthday, thinking she might never have reached this age after her accident.

With no Steve or Gilly on a rainy day today, helping Dave to cut and erect six large support posts to insert between the back wall between the studwork. Catching up with my journal in the evening.

Both the Second Test Match and Wimbledon were rained off today with no play at either

Della was eight today for which we are grateful for, considering her car accident, she may never have reached this age at all. I managed to call and speak to her this evening whilst the family were packing ready to come up and see me this weekend. With no Steve or Gilly today, I was the only help for the main carpenter, Dave, and it was forecast to rain later and rain it certainly did. We were expecting visits from both the roofers and the building inspector but neither appeared. Nor did the urgent delivery of stud from Jewsons. Even so, the two of us made progress, working through the rain to cut and erect six of the large support posts along the back wall and also to do as much of the stud-work as we had materials for.

With the studding, the method is to cut and nail the bottom stretch along the floor, then to cut and mark the top one alongside it before cutting and nailing the uprights to the top and pulling it up into position. The principal posts are then inserted into the gaps left in between them before joining the sections together. We cleared up at the end of the day when it was still raining and then I went out again during a lull after tea and lopped more of the tree branches on the lane. To bed much earlier than of late having typed up this last three days' journal and got up to date. Heard that Daniel had got back home after taking Angela to the station today and that he will be based at home this summer with Angela borrowing his car to come back and forth to see him! Both the Second Test Match and Wimbledon were rained off today with no play at either and so I must be glad that we managed to make some progress today and that most of our man days were when the weather was drier.
