Relaxing family day in Horning enjoying swimming at the Horning Leisure Centre, until joined by Daniel and Angela to go and look at the progress at Ropes Hill Dyke. Some interesting coins found in the Heronshaw loft
Slept very well and then awoke to find Diana still in bed beside me for a change. I exploited this opportunity despite Della being in bed across in the same room but she did not wake up. Then a very slow start with me sitting in bed and reading my books as the girls got ready and watched television. A nice breakfast in the hotel and then a leisurely drive across to the Horning Leisure Centre where the girls went swimming and I first walked around looking at the boats on brokerage and then went in and sat and read again.

Once the girls were out and changing, Daniel and Angela arrived by prior arrangement, and I had a good chance to chat to them. We drove them back to the hotel where they joined us for a nice lunch and then the girls set off to go and see Mum on the way home whilst Daniel gave me a lift back to Heronshaw where I showed him the building work and we discussed how he was going to work on his speedboat to make it usable for the summer season. Once they had gone, I turned to the refrigeration installation in the boat and tried out some of the expanding insulation foam with which I am trying to insulate the fridge and make it more economical on battery power. I also tried to mend the garden fence but, when the light failed on me, I went up into the Heronshaw loft and surveyed the structure up there.
I found that it was in surprisingly good condition and took measurements of all the timbers for the structural survey. The funny thing was that I discovered a hoard of old coins from pre-decimal days amongst which was a commemorative crown, seventeen half-crowns, three shillings, one sixpence, old twelve-sided thr'penny pieces and countless ha'pennies and farthings which I had not seen in a long time. Judging by the most recent dates, the hoard was put up there in the late 1970's. This excitement done with, it was time for bed.
