A full day planning my purchases and shopping in Norwich; buying more materials for finishing Harnser but also a dog kennel and training aids in anticipation of my new puppy arriving. The surprising news today was of the Queen asking voluntarily to be assessed for the payment of Income Tax for the first time.
I spent just about the entire day either planning my shopping, doing the shopping, or examining it once I had got back to Heronshaw. I was awake quite early even after a late night but at least the weather had abated compared with the wild wind and rain overnight. It was funny to see the Racing Reach residents stepping out up their road first thing to clear the drains as it had become flooded due to its low-lying aspect and poor drainage. Lincoln's work in raising the banks of his boatyard had also deprived the surface water of a means of escape.

Shopping with Diana in Norwich after morning coffee in Jarrold’s and then lunch with Daniel in the Pizza Hut and on to Harnser which is Artexed. My journal for the last two days, a bath and then to bed to try and catch up on all the missed sleep. I telephoned home to find the girls fine and very interested in the new puppy
Diana had taken a coach trip to Norwich for the day and I was due to meet her but first I received the Artexers and settled them down to work on the ceilings in Harnser. I had to rush to Jarrolds to get there for our 10.30am rendezvous and I need not have worried in the end as Diana's coach was nearly half an hour late. We had a nice coffee and current scone to recover and then went back to Horning for Diana to see how the building work was coming along. She was even more pleased that we expected.

Starting a few days in Norfolk with a better shooting lesson in Thetford and then to the Fakenham Road in Norwich to view the short-haired pointer puppies and reserve one of them, a dog with kennel name Broadland Teal.
A busy session at The Harnser, sanding away at the woodwork and then applying a coat of combined undercoat/gloss which took until 1.00am to complete!
I was going to pack a lot into a few days in Norfolk, but after I had only just crossed the border my first port of call was the shooting school at Thetford. I arrived early and had time to stop for a morning drink on what proved to be a very nice dry and sunny day. I asked the instructor to provide plenty of cartridges and we set off four boxes in the end ranging over the full variety of skeet or game clays. First the crossing birds from easy and then progressively harder angles; then the driven birds coming towards me at various angles from ground level and then in a typical butt. A walk into the woods to take several birds coming up and over the top.

I took Diana to shop in St Ives whilst I went to Theoben Engineering for some accessories for my new Rapid-7 air rifle and then set up the rifle later. I made plans for another Thetford shooting lesson in the morning and to see some German Short-Haired Pointer Puppies near Norwich afterwards
I awoke early again this morning and went out to try and shoot another pigeon to have for tea. Despite trying quite hard I did not manage to get one. It was amazingly mild again and the collared doves and wood pigeons had plenty of food in the fields and so had no real reason to come to feed here. They have also got a bit wise to my antics and the three I have taken and three more I had hit would no longer be available to come back anyway. I gave up and had breakfast with the family, resumed for a while and then packed up before the gardener arrived. Later, I took Diana to shop in St Ives whilst I went to Theoben Engineering for some accessories for my new Rapid-7 air rifle.
