The Harnser building work ends (on a day that was fine but a little colder and breezier) with the tiling as I burnt of all the cardboard boxes and other paper etc.
I put Harnser, Heronshaw and the Paxton Princess ‘to bed, paid off both Steve and Alan with due thanks and regards.
Once home, I found Diana relaxing watching TV in the lounge as I got the mail and local newspapers and joined her until bedtime
It was another very full working day with an early start. There were a host of small jobs having to be completed and then, after lunch when I had managed to secure the rest of the wall tiles, Steve and Alan completed the tiling for me. Daniel visited to use my jigsaw again but left much sooner than me as I stayed on late and tidied up the site and secured things ready for the property to be left for a while if necessary. I lit a bonfire to dispose of all the cardboard boxes and other paper etc at the end of the day.

Unloading and moving the barge from under Harnser to Heronshaw to make room for The Paxton Princess and continuing work as we heard of a tragic accident on the Hoveton/Horning road where a mother and three-year-old boy died driving a Skoda when their vehicle was in collision with a bus.
I treated Steve out for a meal at The Broads Hotel in Wroxham this evening and saw the touching tribute of a modest vase of flowers filled with flowers left on the verge.
The government today abolished the Wages Councils and now Britain is the only country in Europe not to have statutory minimum wage legislation.
I slept well and then awoke to my radio and began getting washed and dressed before breakfast. Out at 7.30am to join Steve and Alan at work and we spent the first part of the morning unloading the barge, moving it under Heronshaw and making room for the Paxton Princess in its new home of The Harnser. The whole process was quite tiring as we pushed up the long lengths of timber onto the roof beams of the boat-house and then took out nearly two pallets of spare roof tiles by hand and stacked them elsewhere. I then cut and fixed the cornice and lighting rails to the kitchen wall units whilst Steven did some scrim-taping and filling to the ceilings and Alan grouted the kitchen tiles, fitted the mid-shelf unit and then fitted the shower spray heads and slides in the bathroom.

Returning to Norfolk as the weather was even milder and nicer than yesterday. Then making good progress as Steve and Alan finished the bathroom tiling and were embarked upon the kitchen tiling and then fitting the kitchen doors. I bought more supplies and fitted door handles, locks and lighting to the kitchen wall units.
John Major won his Maastricht vote in the House of Commons this evening by the slim majority of three after many Tory backbenchers rebelled and the Liberal Democrats supported the vote and bailed him out.
It was an even earlier start, rising at 6.00am and leaving an hour later to arrive in Horning at 8.45am. I was looking across the river at dawn and was impressed by both the sound and sight of the many flights of geese that were following the river and would have been within range of a shotgun in my riverside garden. It set me thinking about whether I could take some of them without disturbing the neighbours one morning. I arrived in Ropes Hill Dyke road to find Arthur Edmunds with his worker dumping some filling at the side of the road preparatory to making the road up. He explained to me that Doris had been making his life hell by complaining but that is just too bad.

An early start at Harnser, preparing for Steve to fix coving to the hall, bathroom and toilet as Alan started work tiling the bathroom. Then home to celebrate my 45th Birthday by joining Diana at the Arts Theatre restaurant before home to a nice birthday tea. This evening to the Kimbolton Firework Display as a poignant reminder of Della’s accident this day last year. Bill Clinton won the U.S. Presidential Election with a landslide over incumbent George Bush.
I set my alarm radio and woke up early again, Steve getting down first and opening up the building for the work to continue. I managed about two and a half hours cutting the remaining coving for the hall, bathroom and toilet for Steve to fix whilst I was away. Alan started work on tiling the bathroom and then Steve joined him later when he had finished. My journey home was quite fast, but I ran into traffic and vehicle restrictions in Cambridge City as I tried to get to the Arts Theatre and was a bit late meeting Diana for lunch. Luckily, she was late too, and we ate together and enjoyed the company. The library, some shopping and back to the car for the journey home for a cup of tea. Some time with daylight to have a look round, try out the Rolls Royce and then inspect the mole traps where I found I had caught one; and a very big one too!
