Working on my late Mum’s estate arrangements after coaxing Della through her speech-making and journey to the school bus on a fine, warm and sunny day. Then spending some time with Nigel

I spent just about the whole day working on Mum's affairs, but took a couple of long walks with Sam to break things up and then drove over to see Nigel this evening to make some arrangements. It was a fine and warm day, with the sun very much in evidence. but it was also the first day back at school for the girls. It was Della that I was thinking of as I awoke at 7.00am. She had been up until after midnight worrying about this day and even then had not written her speech that she had to do for homework. I helped with that this morning and also ensured that she had her morning piggy-back ride and every other type of assurance culminating in me walking her to the bus-stop with Sam to see them off.

My administration was to first process my own mail that had been left these last few days and then to mark off the details of cards, letters and replies that we had to our funeral invitations. Then the long list of notifications for banks, social security, local authority, and inland revenue contacts; leaving the insurance claims for tomorrow. Between times, I managed to sort out my council tax classification for Heronshaw and do a few other things. Tea was late as Diana was running backwards and forwards after Debbie so that she could have some after-school practice at tennis.

Later on, I became fed up with sitting in my office and drove over to Nigel and we took a walk around his garden and had a few drinks together. He has some very original views on women and particularly those that use Waitrose supermarket but I do not think that these views could stand the scrutiny of women in public. Back to my journal and to find Della still fretting over her speech.
