A day trip to pop by Stanton to collect Dad's car and some family things and then back to take Debbie to Norwich for her contact lens appointment and to meet her and Daniel for a Pizza Hut lunch.

On to Horning to store Dad’s car in the Heronshaw garage and back home to Paxton in time for Debbie to meet Della at the school bus stop

We had a lot planned for today and so I arranged to take Della to her friend, Jemma's, house in Great Paxton this morning. First it was an early start and rush to feed Sam and take him out for a walk and then to have some quick breakfast before getting under way. We were clear of the St Neots area and on our way to Norfolk before 8.00pm and, as we were making good time, I decided that we would call by Stanton to collect Dad's car on the way. I got Di to pop over and tell Marie whilst I went in and collected the mail and then got into the garage and started the car. After a little effort (I think that the petrol in the carburettor had evaporated and the mechanical pump had to top it up whilst being cranked), it ran beautifully and, after she had taken it round the block to try it, Diana pronounced it all right for her to drive. We collected my former parents' deck-chairs, windbreak, some tools and other odds and ends and then set off again for Norwich.

Arrived there in plenty of time for Debbie's contact lens appointment at the opticians and, after settling her there, Diana and I walked over to Jarrold's to have a refreshment break of coffee and fruit scone. Debbie soon joined us and then we left her to spend some time at the library whilst Diana and I drove across to Horning. The task was to get Daniel's boat out of the garage, put dad's car in and then see everything was all right. Sam settled nicely into his "dog-pound" that I had made on my last visit and we would have been all right but, of course, Jack came round and kept us talking and then Diana decided to dust and wipe off the deck-chairs so that we were soon delayed. We also needed to measure the bed and get the dimensions over to Jean in Ludham so that she could make the cover for it.

Debbie and Daniel were waiting outside the Pizza Hut for our 1.00pm rendezvous and telephoned us on our car telephone after fifteen minutes and we told them to go in and order for all of us until we got there. Nearly an hour for shopping afterwards and then the trip home. Sam had most of the day in the car and got fed up with this during one of our periods of absence, but I got him a new bone and he was all right afterwards. Home in time for Debbie to meet Della at the school bus stop and then a long walk with Sam. A successful inaugural meeting of the local Neighbourhood Watch evening this evening at a neighbour’s house and then I had invited our council candidates to come round to The Hayling View as they had called asking for help on polling day. With all else I am supposed to be doing at the moment, I can hardly afford the time but I cannot stand by and see Ruth Clapham get back in. A really nice and warm day in Norfolk after a dull and misty start but then it was breezier back home on our return.
