Poor sporting day in the snow after an early call when Sam ran well with his sore paw but nothing found to shoot.

Then some successful shopping for boots and breeks for Wiggly but it was wild, windy and cold outside and so and fell soundly asleep

Awake early to the call of my organiser at 6.30am and quickly dressed and out to Thormaid.

Out of the car at dawn and a good walk around the roads with Sam working hard in the snow trying to find grouse and hares. He ran well and, though his foot was still swollen, he did not seem to notice it.

No shots fired and then back late to the hotel to have a nice breakfast with Wiggly who had now met Anne and Millie who maintained the discretion.

A trip into Thurso together to do some shopping, have a snack and then to take Sam to the vet. The verdict was that his paw is healing naturally and should be left without exploratory surgery and to get better by itself.

Our shopping included some boots and breeks for Wiggly, some shooting gloves for me and a bottle of whisky for both of us.

Sent off the broken Psion to the factory to be fixed and this will be back for Wiggly to use soon after we get back. To Thormaid and another long walk with Sam and the guns; this time up to The Fairy Glenn where we could see the other half of the estate from the top of the hill.

Plenty of tracks and sight of flying grouse but nothing we could shoot. Back at dusk, quite cold and tired and I had to bring in Nigel's Goose Gun for cleaning and oiling as it had started to rust with him not cleaning it up until now.

A nice early dinner, intending to go out after for some hare-shooting but it was wild, windy and cold outside and so, after much whisky and wine, opted for bed instead.

I felt tired and cold although it was only 9.30pm and only curled up in Wiggly's arms and fell soundly asleep, much to her disappointment.

I woke up in the early hours, rolled over to see her and had my satisfaction but, with my clumsy efforts, she had to wait until morning for hers.
