More than 40 years, told day by day
After getting out with Sam to do some quartering and waterwork, helping with the re-erection of Percy's destroyed posterboards, noting Derek's problems and so helping Terry canvas in Buckden.
The South African elections go on despite a large bomb at Jo'burgh's International Airport
Into a nice spell of settled weather with sun and warm south-westerly air making it very nice. Out with Sam to do some quartering and waterwork but did not do too much because of the heat. Back to make some calls to review the election returns and was disappointed to find that Percy had some posterboards down and nobody to help him get them up again.

After a brief walk for Sam and a host of financial chores, more Election work in Buckden and Offord on another nice day, supervision canvassing and reconciling styles and objectives.
The first day in the South African elections today which was a poignant and historic event. This day the elderly, infirm and security forces vote in the first of three.
Another nice day for the election and I started it by contacting Derek with a further briefing on Buckden issues. A quick run for Sam after which I left him in the garden sun whilst I drove into St Neots and spent the morning there.

The UN/NATO ultimatum to the Bosnian Serbs has worked and now they must withdraw even further from Goradsne.
It was to be a full day but nice, sunny and warm to make it worthwhile. Out with Sam early and to the bus stop with the girls where Della enjoyed making a fuss of him now he is much calmer and more steady in her hands. A dry and sunny day to recover, training Sam under close control across the river in Mill Meadow to make him more responsive. Then showing him work and play some tricks for the little boy opposite. Then to my office to make a couple of long telephone calls about the campaign and then update this last couple of days' journal.
I had trouble getting to sleep as I was full and hot from a late meal and outside day with mind full of political campaigns and dog training. A short run for Sam in the rain before driving off to the Woodall Park Spring Pointing. Both Jim’s Ben and my Sam ran poorly. Home via our election district to hear that Norwich lost another football match.
We heard that the Bosnian Serbs seem to be pulling back from a final assault on Goradsne following the latest UN/NATO threats of air strikes
It was after 7.00am by the time Diana called me with my morning tea because she now takes the view that Debbie can get herself up for school on a Saturday. I was troubled to see that it was pouring with rain and had some difficulty finding a dry spell to give Sam a small run before I had eaten my breakfast and loaded him into the car ready to go.

After leaving Sam out in the cold last night, I started organising the Offord’s election and dog training early this morning.
I saw our old pony "Sundance" at Fitz Farm this morning who was still very sound.
The news is of a NATO decision to issue an ultimatum to the Bosnian Serbs - withdraw from the edge of Goradsne or have their supply lines and forces bombed
I had been so preoccupied with my telephone calls last night and staying up late to receive and collate canvassing statistics by telephone that I completely forgot to put both the car and Sam away last night. The poor dog was curled up under the rear porch and locked out of his kennel and I only realised when I heard him barking at the milkman when he should normally have been asleep!
