As Diana drove to Cambridge for some shoe shopping with friends children, I prepared to get our investments onto an Excel spreadsheet and also kept an eye on the garden and Koi carp. News is of the aftermath of the Marchioness Thames pleasure boat sinking and of a scare about microwave ovens and bacterial risk
I had another poor night, with the room temperature defeating my attempts to get to sleep until I took my pyjama jacket off in the early hours. We had an early call, as Diana had planned a trip to Cambridge with a friend’s children and wanted an early start. They got to Cambridge early for their trip around the city on an open topped bus but were delayed for an hour in the shoe shop where a long queue of school shoe purchasers were holding things up.

I thought of going with them but would not have been very welcome and so stayed at home. I use the day to do much of the preparatory work necessary to get our investments onto an Excel spreadsheet program. Much time was needed but now far less in the future as a result. I also kept an eye on the garden watering and kept a constant food supply for the Koi. I was interrupted once by two young ladies who called to earnestly suggest that the village install more wastepaper bins to prevent tin cans from being discarded as letter.
The news today is of progress on enquiries into the Thames pleasure boat sinking. Breath tests on the crews of both the Marchioness and the dredger had proved that they were not the worse for alcohol. The Marchioness was also not overloaded on enquiries with centre on the right of navigation under the centre arch of Southwark Bridge.
The latest food scare concerns microwave ovens which may now be less than effective in killing bacteria in pre-cooked/chilled foods. Following attacks on credit card interest rates by the regulators, access has opted to charge an annual fee rather than rely on commissions.
