After some time working at home studying the aftermath of the budget after a night disturbed by drunken youths, I went out and did the chores before breakfast and then made an impression on the job of writing the second election FOCUS.
In the evening I got ready for Derek's Eaton Candidates meeting and found all candidates 20mins late and the Agent completely drunk! I had a go at Derek afterwards as I do not want that sort of a meeting again.
My night's sleep was somewhat disturbed by a few drunken youths wandering around. They seemed quite harmless, but I had to get up to see anyway. I rose early nevertheless and spent a little time before breakfast in the conservatory feeding the fish, reading the newspapers, and watering my plants because the gardener did not come at the weekend. The papers were still dismembering the budget, but the opinions were not very good of it and the Tories slip in the opinion polls; allowing Labour to take a three-point lead. A slightly chilly night and start to the day but the sun soon came out and cheered everything up. I went out and did the chores before breakfast, then insisted that Daniel joined the rest of us for this meal. There were six of us including Helen and Daniel.

After this, I caught up on my recent journal and then settled down to make an impression on the job of writing this second election FOCUS. I worked all afternoon on this project and, by teatime, had finished the inner policy section and had drafted an attempt at the outer local section for Priory Ward. Diana was late back for tea, having spent the day ferrying the girls around their activities and friends and so it was rather late that I got ready for Derek's Eaton Candidates meeting and set off to arrive only just in time. The meeting just about achieved its aims although three of the Eaton Candidates were not there 20 minutes after it was supposed to start and then one did not turn up at all. Also the agent turned up completely drunk after an afternoon's drinking which set the tone! I had a go at Derek afterwards as I do not want that sort of a meeting again.
Home at about 9.00pm to find that there was still a strong smell of gas coming from the gas meter cupboard outside my office even though the fitter had been here for the third time today. Why are people so disorganised?

A full working day at the Cambridge LibDems Glisson Road building folding election addresses and printing out canvas cards and posters with the help of Percy and Keith after which Percy took them back to Michael and Derek for sorting into bundles for our St Neots area deliverers. Sally and us were organised and preparing for our holiday break away.
Interest rates need to fall further as another travel firm goes bust and ABTA’s guarantee fund is stretched and the US were still trying to depose Saddam Hussein but the UN has lifted the food embargo on Iraq
I had planned to be at the Liberal Democrats building this morning, but this turned out to be a full working day. I was up quite early, did a few things before leaving the house and was gone before the gardener arrived. Diana asked him to do the chores for me. Early at Histon where I collected the printing and took it across to Glisson Road. Percy and Keith were already there and started the job of folding those election addresses as I organised the photocopying of the balance of the posters for the election campaign. There was no sign of John Matthewman and, following a telephone call to him to find out what was happening, he arrived much later at lunchtime with the disks that contained the data for the St Neots Canvas Card printouts. I therefore had to spend all afternoon at the computer printing them out. The rest of our printing was ready by lunchtime and so I gave a reluctant Percy the task of taking this back to Michael and Derek so that they could bundle the election leaflets up together and get them to the deliverers in good time for the weekend.

After an unsettled night ruing the forthcoming closure of St Neots Post Office, a day at home catching up and editing our next election leaflet before an evening HDC Southern Area meeting. The government announced their very confusing half-baked plans to end the Poll Tax which will solve nothing
I did not sleep very well last night thinking about the injustice and nonsense involved in the closure of St Neots Post office - a proposal born from this government's ideologies about privatising everything in sight. Slow to get going this morning as a result and then caught up on these last few days' papers, my mail tray and journal. Entered all of the HDC meeting dates in my diary for the next year and gave some thought to how I would organise the HDC committee places if we won an extra two council seats.

A full day of activity, reacting to the Budget by fax, copying election posters with Debbie’s help in Cambridge and then dealing with investments after a Little Chef lunch.
Attending this evening productive Southoe Parish and St Neots Town Council meetings about a playing field for Southoe and to try and stop the St Neots Post Office closure.
I took Debbie with me to Cambridge this morning and she helped me to photocopy the St Neots Election posters on the machine at Glisson Road. Earlier, I had got up to draft a press release for our Budget reaction and had exchanged faxes with Sue Sutton to agree the content. I printed off individually addressed copies of the release and then, once we had arrived, we faxed these off to the radio, TV and newspapers. My activity was not without problems this morning. I had to replace the fax roll before that would work for us and then the toner for the Sharp photocopier ran out and so I had to leave my job un-finished!
