Pouring over the plans to redevelop Heronshaw and checking a few things on Paxton Princess before tackling some chores for Steve and then visiting Mum on the way back. Mum seemed to be managing all right and was in quite good spirits and the visit, though brief, was satisfactory in every way. Dropping off Steve with his purchases before returning home.
We were up early this morning as I was keen to get on and Steve had been rather ill in the night. Once ready, we went out into the garden at 8.00am and got in a good hour's work before breaking off for breakfast. We had been pulling up weeds from the gravel and piling them up ready for shredding on a future visit. We were quite tired by this time and so drove into Horning and bought some supplies for breakfast and then went back to eat them. After this, I cleared the table and we poured over the plans for developing Heronshaw, trying to work out how the old bungalow could be jacked up using the new piling that I have planned.

An early start with Steve Bloom for our visit to Norfolk, arriving in time for the boating auction at Potter Heigham where I just bought two hydraulic jacks. Back to meet the new neighbours before working on until it was time to take Steve to the Wroxham Bridge Restaurant.
I had a very early start indeed this morning, trying to get ready to leave by 6.30am when Steve Bloom was due to arrive. The event was the annual boating auction at Potter Heigham which is advertised as the only Broadland auction still going now that Wroxham has packed up. The idea was to go and get there early enough to view the lots before the auction started and not necessarily to buy a great deal if anything at all. I was ready early and Steve arrived on time and so we got away by 6.45am. The journey was not too bad but there was still more traffic than we were expecting.

After the recent tiring days, a welcome day at home catching up with the gardener, my mother and the news. A dull and lack-lustre Tory Conference today with a debate on Northern Ireland and it was only the appearance of Margaret Thatcher that livened things up and then she did not dare speak
I was very slow to get going this morning and I really wanted even more sleep to recover from my recent late nights. Came down to breakfast in my dressing gown to be sociable and then took my time afterwards to get dressed and ready. Out to chat to the gardener and to pay him for last week's work and then, later on, I helped plan the position and shuttering for the new riverside path. The idea was to get things moving as the project seemed to have got stuck lately. I achieved this, although the foundations for the path had been excavated far too deeply and we will have to find quite a deal of hardcore or concrete to get it up to the level that I would like.

After a rush to get the girls off to school and a rendezvous with Di’s parents in Cambridge, Off to Glisson Road for a planning meeting where my resignation was not discussed.
Back to lunch with the family at The Copper Kettle and home via Meldreth for some swimming pool chemical. Sitting in on the St Neots Town Council Group meeting and home to watch TV coverage of a discordant Tory Conference
I had to rush round this morning to get the final FOCUS copy ready to take to Cambridge. Now that both girls go to school at 8.00am, the pressure is with me on these occasions to get ready to leave. Just time for breakfast and to take some copies of the artwork before I had to spend a few minutes getting my papers ready for today's meetings. A fairly easy drive into Cambridge and then a smart walk up to Eadon Lilley's to meet Di's parents for morning coffee. I only had a few minutes for my coffee before catching a taxi over to Glisson Road for the start of the 10.15am meeting.
