David and Gilly fixed the Harnser Floor Bearers in place

Recovering from all of the exertions and arrangements from the day before David and Gilly fixed the Harnser Floor Bearers in place. My helper Steve’s wife Mary has had a setback with breast cancer but Della has won a school prize for Art and features in the Kimbolton prize-giving after all

I had just collapsed into bed last night and proceeded to sleep very soundly before waking up around 5.00am with the dawn chorus. I tried to go back to sleep but, well rested and with much to do, I decided to get up and had a wash and shave before getting dressed ready for the day ahead. After making a cup of tea, I typed up these last two days journal to the fascination of Steven who was groggily recovering consciousness. Some toast and more tea for breakfast and then, after removing the overnight cover from the timber to let it continue to dry out, I settled down to some planning for the rest of the building project.

I calculated that we had received a delivery of just under half of the timber and that I should get the rest of it on order. I am also keeping track of all of the expenditures so far on the boat-shed which is looking good. I called Mr Cooper, the building control officer, and he said that he would try to get over today but he did not materialise in the end. Had a prolonged shopping session and bought all manner of materials from Jewsons including an extension bit to make light of the pile drilling and this investment paid dividends as Gilly completed the bolting of the bearers and then David fixed all the joists and insulation support splines into position. Steve did a few errands for me and also finished fitting the remaining paving stones into position but later had some bad news from home as he heard that Mary had been disappointed with her recent exploratory surgery for breast cancer and may have to have another operation in short order.

It was a little showery today, but we came through without loss of time and this progress threw some pressure into the task of getting the windows urgently as we start the stud-work tomorrow. My news from home was much better. Della has won a school prize for Art and features in prize-giving after all and so, as I need to be in Norfolk on her birthday next Friday, I will drive home tomorrow to see her in her school swimming gala and then for her prize-giving.
