Using my new Rapind-7 air rifle to shoot a duck in Paxton and then driving to see Nigel to compare air rifles where it was far superior. Leaving the task or roasting the duck until another time, I returned to my financial affairs this evening, making some progress, and then decided to leave for Norfolk in the morning. The weather was damp and drizzly for much of today but not cold.
I was awake early again this morning and took my gun down to the riverside and managed to kill a mallard drake with a single shot to the neck. I had to launch a dinghy to recover it though as it just managed to make the other side of the river before it expired. Soon afterwards the complete tribe of match anglers arrived on the meadow and so I gave up and dressed the drake. In for breakfast, a shower and shave and then, once I had gathered my things and cleared up a bit, I drove over to see Nigel and show him the new gun. We tried some targets at 30yards and 50yards and found that, even with his air rifle illegally charged with chloroform, the "Rapid-7" was still faster and much more accurate.

Back for a roast chicken lunch and then I used the carcass and some vegetables to make a chicken stock and then made some soup for our tea later. I was going to try roasting a duck but opted to leave that until another time when I will be around more to eat it afterwards. I returned to my financial affairs this evening and cracked the most difficult part of the job but there still seems to be far too much more to get done in time to leave for Norfolk in the morning. It was damp and drizzly for much of today but not cold.
