Long walks with Sam on another warm day of clear skies and sunshine watching Test Cricket as Debbie sails Topper dinghies on her last day on the water sports week and Della gets ill but still sees her friends.
Linford Christie became the only British man to have won gold medals in the 100 metres at all four major competitions
Another warm day of clear skies and sunshine but, instead of getting on with jobs about the place, I opted for a days' rest and watched the cricket for most of the time. I started off by having a lay in and breakfast with the others before feeding Sam and taking him out for a walk. As I had time on my side, I went past the Common and walked right into St Neots town itself which proved a reasonable trek. Before, I had not considered taking him into town, feeling that it meant a long time on the lead, but that route made it possible.

It was therefore as much from tiredness as anything else that I flopped down in front of the TV and watched the second day of the sixth test match. England had three new bowlers making their debut in the series and they immediately made their mark, getting on top of the Australian attack to get into a winning position for once. I took a few telephone calls concerning our property purchases and we contracted to 18 Lawrence Road for Daniella's Trust but the joint purchase of 50-52 Cambridge Street seemed to be held up, but it was for Nigel Smith and Lynne Britton to retrieve it.
The swimming pool had recovered from the algae attack at last and the girls were swimming in it. Della had been ill with a temperature, headache and achy limbs but still had Katie Morris round to stay overnight and then she went, by invitation, over to Katie Hitchen for the afternoon! Debbie completed her last day on the water sports week, sailing Topper dinghies in more of a breeze than of late. The weather was getting cloudier and less anticyclonic. I was glad that she was getting some proper activity and tuition as I want her to do more sailing at Horning. The pity was that she came last in a race they had to finish!
Daniel went to an all-night skating session this evening and us go off to Horning tomorrow; all being well. The Bosnian peace talks are broken off for a recess with each of the three parties wanting to claim more territory than was compatible with the other two sides’ demands.
Great Britain add two more gold medals to their tally in the World Athletics Championships and world records to go with them, moving into second place behind the U.S.A. with one day to go. Linford Christie became the only British man to have won gold medals in the 100 metres at all four major competitions open to British athletes: the Olympic Games, the World Championships, the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
